Denver Broncos Release Montee Ball

For many players on the back end of 53-man rosters, making it through Saturday's roster cut downs doesn't assure you a roster spot on Sunday. Montee Ball is the most notable victim of the Sunday waiver claims and cuts, with the Broncos parting ways with their fourth-string running back.

Ball, the 58th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, saw his opportunities decline as time went on in Denver. As a rookie in 2013, he compiled 120 carries for 559 yards, a very respectable 4.7 yards per carry. But last season it all went down hill, as  C.J. Anderson, Juwan Thompson and Ronnie Hillman all passed him on the depth chart.

The Broncos likely pushed very hard in the past few days to trade Ball, but were just unable to get anything worthy in return. Now the former Wisconsin Badgers star running back will sit on the waiver wire, waiting to see if a team will put in a claim.

It's still very possible another team puts in a claim on Ball and brings him in as their third running back. Denver was just too crowded and if the right team opens it's doors, Ball could have a small role in 2015 for them. From a fantasy perspective, you are staying away.
