It's not a good week to be a wide receiver in the NFL with injuries popping up across the league. Kevin White and Michael Floyd have already gone down with significant injuries, now DeSean Jackson is added to the list. ESPN's Dianna Marie Russini reported the severity of Jackson's injury.
Jackson reportedly was finishing a route when he ran into a blocking sled, with his shoulder taking the major blow. It certainly goes down as a "memorable" training camp injury, but it's not something Washington needed as they try and get Robert Griffin III more comfortable.
While Jackson should return in plenty of time for the regular season opener against the Miami Dolphins, he will be facing Brent Grimes, who likes to be physical and push the man in front of him. Grimes will certainly be looking to test Jackson's shoulder, as will other opponents, so it's worth monitoring to see how quickly it progresses.
Now with Jackson out for most of training camp and a chunk of the preseason, it will open the door for receivers like Ryan Grant, Andre Roberts and Jamison Crowder to see added reps. It's especially crucial for Roberts and Crowder as a battle could emerge for the slot receiver position.
Fantasy Spin:
Jackson was a top-20 receiver heading into the season and while the shoulder injury could be a target for opponents early in the regular season to put some bumps and hits on, he is not in danger of missing games. For fantasy drafts taking place within the next week or two, some fantasy owners could take caution and let him slide down the board another round because of the injury being recent, but this shouldn't take away any of his projected production for the upcoming season.
