Did the New York Giants Drop the Ball with Odell Beckham Jr?

Perhaps the most active team in the NFL this offseason, the New York Giants did a great job addressing the offensive line, which was their biggest need entering the offseason. By drafting Weston Richburg and signing Geoff Schwartz, the Giants were allowed to go with the best player available draft strategy. To give Eli Manning another playmaker across from Victor Cruz, the Giants drafted Odell Beckham Jr..

Coming out of LSU, Beckham Jr. played against some of the best competition in college football and he dominated in the SEC too. In his junior year, which was his last year in college, Beckham Jr. caught 57 passes for over 1,100 receiving yards. He also added eight touchdown catches too. Although he never had a consistent season in college, Beckham Jr.'s game is better suited for the NFL because he has the ability to be a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses.

Although his size leaves much to be desire at 5'11", 200 pounds, Beckham Jr. is one of the quickest players in this draft class. At the NFL Scouting Combine, Beckham Jr. ran a 4.38 40-yard dash. The most intriguing thing is his explosiveness, as he had a 39" vertical jump. With soft hands and excellent route-running ability, Beckham Jr. has drawn comparisons to Victor Cruz and the two have the potential to dominate in the NFL.

By drafting the LSU product, the Giants will have a nice trio of receivers in Beckham Jr., Cruz, and Rueben Randle. Something to remember is that Beckham Jr. played with Randle at LSU. In fact, they roomed together in college. I'm of the majority that drafting Beckham Jr. was a smart decision. The potential is definitely there for Beckham Jr. to be a really good football player at the next level.
