New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees hasn't necessarily had the best start to the season. In addition to his team boasting a 0-2 record heading into Week 3, Brees has struggled finding any sort of momentum in the passing game.
Through Week 2, the future Hall of Famer has put up two touchdowns compared to two interceptions while leading the Saints offense to an average of 19 points per game.
Against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, Brees suffered what looked like it could have been a serious injury to his throwing shoulder. At 36 years old, that would be the last thing the 15-year veteran needed.
Fortunately for Brees and the Saints, an MRI conducted Monday afternoon indicated that his shoulder injury is not serious.
The Saints had originally anticipated that Brees would miss "several weeks," so this is good news.
As Schefter indicated, Brees' status for Week 3 against the Carolina Panthers is up in the air. It will depend a great deal on how his shoulder feels throughout the week.
If Brees cannot go, Luke McCown will make his first start since he was a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars back in 2011. In fact, McCown has started a total of nine games in 12 NFL seasons. Think about that one for a second.
Some of Brees' struggles early this season can be attributed to a lackluster wide receiver group. Though, there has to be legitimate concern that he's simply not the same player he once was.
