Despite defeating the New York Giants 27-7 on Monday Night Football, the Philadelphia Eagles can't feel great about the product they put on the field in that game.
Philadelphia turned the ball over four times and committed nine penalties in what amounted to one of the ugliest games the NFL has seen this season. For his part, Sam Bradford completed 24-of-38 passes for 280 yards with one touchdown and three picks. He also accounted for one of the Eagles' three fumbles on the night.
Despite struggling pretty much throughout the entire season, it doesn't appear the Eagles are prepared to bench Bradford in favor of backup Mark Sanchez:
Including Monday's performance, Bradford has put up as many touchdowns (nine) as interceptions through six games. He's also lost one fumble. The interesting thing here is that Philadelphia still ranks 10th in the NFL in scoring offense at 24 points per game. Even slightly above-average quarterback play would have this unit among the tops in the league.
The issue here is that Sanchez is the alternative. No one in their right mind believes that he would perform at a higher level than Bradford.
For Chip Kelly and company, it's all about riding Bradford for the remainder of the season. His ability to produce at a higher clip could be the difference between the team making the playoffs or sitting at home in January for the second consecutive season.
