eDraft exclusive Interview: Josh Huff, Wide Receiver, Oregon

Josh Huff came into Oregon as a freshman during the 2010 season and though he wasn’t a top receiver, he did make an impact on their team. Huff finished the season with 19 receptions for 303 yards and 3 touchdowns. On top of that he had 12 carries for 214 yards and 2 touchdowns and 23 kick returns for 567 yards.

Huff was the only true freshman on offense to play in all 13 games. In 2011 Huff played in 12 games, starting 10 of them. Huff finished the year with 31 receptions for 430 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 8 kick returns for 174 yards. He was third on Oregon in receptions.

In 2012 Huff started all 11 games and had 32 receptions for 493 yards, but his touchdown number jumped up to seven. Huff was named honorable mention to the All-Pac 12 team. In 2013 as a senior Huff started all 13 games and played his best season at Oregon.

He finished the season with 62 receptions for 1140 yards and 11 touchdowns. He had five receptions for 104 and a touchdown in the Alamo Bowl against Texas to close out his college career. Huff was again named honorable mention to the All-Pac 12 team. Huff finished with 23 career touchdowns, which is good for fourth most in Oregon history. His 11 touchdowns as a senior is second in Oregon history for a single season.

I want to thank Josh Huff for taking the time out of his schedule to do this interview with me.

First off man I want to thank you for taking the time to do this interview with me.

JH: No prob.

So you grew up in Texas. Who was your favorite pro team growing up?

JH: Yessir. Of course the Houston Texans.

What drew you to them instead of the Cowboys?

JH: Never really liked the cowboys! I'm just a proud Houstonian that loves any Houston team.

What about in college sports? Were you a Houston fan there too? Or did you grow up a Longhorns fan?

JH: Nah I grew up a longhorn fan because of Vince young , Cedric Benson , Ricky Williams guys that went to that school that are now legends.

Absolutely. I can remember the championship game against USC where VY dominated. So what took you up to Oregon?

JH: Just to be away from home and grow up as a man on my own. Plus the football program was on the rise. Great players and coaches, something I seen myself being a part of for the next four years of my life.

Was there a coach at Oregon who really helped you become who you are as a player?

JH: For the first 3 years it was Scott Frost & this past year it was both Matt Lubbick & Scott Frost

Is there a receiver that you have tried to model your game after?

JH: Andre Johnson, Anquan Boldin & Percy Harvin! I possess each one of their skill sets, just never got an opportunity to showcase those till this year.

All 3 of those guys are phenomenal. What would you say your biggest strength on the field is?

JH: My biggest strength on the field would have to be two things. One being my toughness and the other is me being versatile! I'm just not a WR & that's what makes me a huge asset to any team. I bring toughness and swag that every team needs.

Absolutely. Toughness over the middle and being tough to bring down create big plays. On the flip side of that what is your biggest weakness

JH: Exactly. One of my weaknesses would have to be me finally getting settled in with being a receiver. I'm still learning this position but I’m completely confident if I continue to perfect my craft it's going to be a team that drafts me who will get a steal regardless.

And in today's NFL, a talented slot receiver can be huge for an offense. What would you say is your biggest on field accomplishment?

JH: Biggest accomplishment has got to be winning the Rose Bowl in 2011.

Yeah, winning the Rose Bowl is a huge accomplishment. What would you say your biggest accomplishment off the field is?

JH: Being the first one to graduate college in my family.

That's a great accomplishment. I'll let you out of here with one last question. What do you want to do once your playing days are over?

JH: Well once I'm done I would like to use my degree to get into social work with troubled adolescence & be their mentor! You know get them back on the right path.

That's awesome man. Making a difference in a kids life and helping to keep them out of trouble is fantastic.

JH: Exactly and thank you Mr.Meek

Thank you man for taking the time to do this. Good luck with the draft and the future after it.

JH: No problem. Thank you

I want to again thank Mr. Huff for taking the time to do this interview and wish him the best of luck in the months leading up to the draft and in everything he does afterwards.
