We can't look at the 49ers' defense and assume it's the same unit that was absolutely torched throughout the 2016 season. Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers know this first-hand. Under new coordinator Robert Saleh, this defense is vastly improved. It also has a ton of untapped talent. Last week saw Newton complete just 14-of-25 passes for 171 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. He ultimately finished as the 18th-best fantasy quarterback on the week.
