Fantasy Baseball Daily - May 5, 2014

Monday is here and it is another work week is upon us.  Don’t let the Monday blues get you down and have some fun with us here at eDraft and FanDuel!  Hopefully everyone had a great weekend of winnings and is ready to start another good week.  Today we have almost a full day of games with the earliest being the St. Louis Cardinals versus the Atlanta Braves starting at 7:00 PM Eastern Standard Time.  With this game we have 13 total games today with 26 teams worth of players to analyze so let’s get into it and win some money!

We bring you fantasy daily picks for FanDuel.com and if you haven’t signed up yet, be sure to follow this link http://eDraft.com/FanDuel/MLB to receive a 100% deposit bonus on your initial deposit.  This is an amazing deal that you can’t miss so be sure to check it out and make yourself some extra cash.  The cap for FanDuel is $35,000 with only one player at each position like a real MLB lineup (with the exception of outfielders where you can start any three players that are outfield eligible.)

The scoring system for FanDuel is as follows:

Hitters: Single = 1pt, Double = 2pts, Triple = 3pts, Homerun = 4pts, RBI = 1pt, Run = 1pt, Walk = 1pt,
Stolen Base = 2pts, Hit By Pitch = 1, Out (calculated as at bats - hits) = -.25pt
Pitchers: Win = 4pts, Earned Run = -1pt, Strike Out = 1pt, Innings Pitched = 1pt

Good Value Players

Pitcher

Jon Niese, Mets, $6,500: Niese gave up just one earned run on four hits with one walk and five strikeouts in seven innings Tuesday against the Phillies.  The 27-year-old lefty notched his second win and fourth straight quality start, as he's been an excellent under the radar draft selection and daily fantasy play so far for fantasy owners.  Even if he regresses to a pitcher with an ERA a little above 3.00, as the advanced metrics suggest he might, that's still incredibly useful in most formats.

Catcher

Brian McCann, Yankees, $3,300: McCann was giving the day off in yesterday’s game which hopfullymeans he is rested and ready to make an impact in today’s game against the Los Angeles Angels.  So far this season it looks like he is one of those up and down players every other day.  Luckily for us McCann is facing Jered Weaver who hasn’t had the greatest start to his season.  Even though he has only given up three total runs in his past two starts, Weaver has surrendered 15 hits in those 11.1 innings pitched.  McCann is set at a good value and should be very well considered to start on most daily teams.

First Base

Eric Hosmer, Royals, $3,100: Hosmer went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI in Wednesday's victory over the Blue Jays.  He has bounced back from a slow start, hitting safely in seven of his last 10 games and bringing his batting average up to .286 on the season.  He continues to seek his first home run of the season, but other than that, is starting to come around for fantasy owners and us daily players.  Hosmer will be facing the San Diego Padres pitcher Eric Stults who has been having a poor season thus far.  His last two games he gave up seven total runs and 17 base hits in eight innings pitched.  Hosmer has the upper hand and may very well find his first homerun of the season.

Second Base

Ian Kinsler, Tigers, $3,500: Kinsler was 2-for-5 with a double, one RBI and a run scored yesterday against the Kansas City Royals.  He is on a four game hitting streak of at least hitting two base hits and hit safely in eight of his last ten games.  Kinsler now upped his averaged to .304 with 16 RBI’s and 18 runs scored.  He is in a favorable matchup agains the Houston Astros pitcher Jarred Cosart who owns a 5.52 ERA in six starts.  Kinsler has a great opportunity to continue hitting well and rack up some points for us in our daily leagues.

Third Base

Yangervis Solarte, Yankees, $2,700: In yesterday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays, Solarte went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk.  He missed Sunday's game with a sore shoulder, but he can now be considered healthy moving forward.  With Solarte's ninth double of the seasonon Tuesday, he is just two behind Chase Utley, Hanley Ramirez and Paul Goldschmidt, who lead all of baseball with 11 doubles apiece.  Solarte is facing Jered Weaver who has a high ERA which is why I like him for the extremely low value today.

Shortstop

Erick Aybar, Angels, $3,200: Aybar went 3-for-5 with a home run and a double in a 14-3 loss to the Rangers on Sunday.  Aybar started the game off for the Halos on a promising note, as he led off the first with a home run, but aside from an Albert Pujols solo shot later in the inning, the Angels didn't have much go their way in the contest.  Aybar's big day in the one-hole is good news for owners, as it could mean more time at the top of the lineup for the 30-year-old while Kole Calhoun (ankle) is on the disabled list.

Outfield

Torii Hunter, Tigers, $3,300: Hunter went 3-for-5 with three RBI in Sunday's victory over the Royals.  He is now working on an 11-game hit streak, with six multi-hit games over that span.  He has recorded three RBI in two straight games to give him a total of 19 on the season, to go along with a .319 batting average.  Like Kinsler, Hunter is facing Cosart today and there should be plenty of offense from these players as well as the rest of the Tigers lineup.
