eDraft offers a unique, alternative method to analyze how well your last season’s fantasy football quarterback performed based on consistency rather than fantasy points. Over the 2013 NFL Season, the five quarterbacks who were the most consistent in performance based on eDraft’s player consistency metrics were Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Philip Rivers, Andy Dalton, and Aaron Rodgers.
The consistency metrics are based on a set default of how many games played, a quarterback passed for at least 300 yards and/or threw a minimum of two touchdown passes.
Totally customizable, the consistency metrics can be set to rank the quarterbacks on the easiest scale, which is based on a minimum of 100 passing yards and one touchdown in a game, to the most challenging grading metric of 400 passing yards per game and three touchdowns.
The quarterbacks mentioned above were most often found in the top five consistency percentage when adjusting the metrics to the various settings within those ranges.
For instance, in using the default setting, Manning earns a 100% consistency score as he either passed for 300 yards and/or had two touchdowns in each of his 16 played, regular season games.
Peyton Manning | Consistency | 300+Pass | 325+Pass | 1+TD | 2+TD | 3+TD | Either |
| 100% | 12 | 10 | 16 | 15 | 11 | 16 |
When the consistency metrics are changed to the strictest ranking of a minimum of 400 passing yards and three touchdowns per game, Manning still comes in at the top, achieving either one or both of these numbers in 69% of his games played.
Rivers ranks second highest at 44% consistency, meeting these numbers in seven of his games played, using this same metric.
Philip Rivers | Consistency | 400+Pass | 425+Pass | 1+TD | 2+TD | 3+TD | Either |
| 44% | 3 | 0 | 16 | 9 | 6 | 7 |
If you want to set the metrics a little lower in ranking at a minimum of 250 passing yards per game, and three touchdowns, Rodgers ranks third with 78% of his nine games played meeting these minimum numbers.
Aaron Rodgers | Consistency | 250+Pass | 275+Pass | 1+TD | 2+TD | 3+TD | Either |
| 78% | 7 | 5 | 8 | 5 | 3 | 7 |
Adjusting the consistency metric to increase the passing yards to 325 and lower the touchdowns passed to two per game has Dalton tied with Brees in ranking second at attaining these numbers in 75% of their games played.
Andy Dalton | Consistency | 325+Pass | 350+Pass | 1+TD | 2+TD | 3+TD | Either |
| 75% | 5 | 2 | 13 | 11 | 6 | 12 |
Drew Brees | Consistency | 325+Pass | 350+Pass | 1+TD | 2+TD | 3+TD | Either |
| 75% | 8 | 6 | 16 | 11 | 6 | 12 |
As you can see, using eDraft’s customizable consistency metrics can provide an array of criteria in passing yards and touchdowns for which the NFL quarterbacks can be ranked for fantasy football evaluation or any other purpose. The quarterbacks mentioned within this article fell into the top five for consistency most often while adjusting the metrics to their various settings.
This is clearly a different method than ranking the quarterbacks solely based on their fantasy points, total season yards passed, or total touchdowns scored.
