Fantasy Football: 5 Most Consistent Wide Receivers In 2013

Consistency is crucial, especially when it comes to a player on your fantasy football team. Using eDraft’s player consistency tool it has been determined that these five wide receivers, Josh Gordon, Brandon Marshall, Calvin Johnson, Demaryius Thomas and Dez Bryant performed overall, the most consistently throughout the 2013 fantasy football season.

If you had one or more of these wide receivers last year, he likely scored you an abundance of fantasy points most nearly every week of the season, maybe even single-handedly boosting your team to that weekly victory.

The consistency metrics tool at eDraft is simple to use, and ranks the wide receivers on how consistently they performed each game of the year. By adjusting the metric to the wide receiver achieving a minimum of 25 total yards per game, and/or scoring one touchdown to the maximum setting of a wide receiver making 200 total yards in a game and/or two touchdown scores, the player consistency is measured.

The standard setting for the consistency tool ranks the wide receivers at a minimum of acquiring 100 total yards per game and/or scoring one touchdown. Upon using this default setting, Thomas ranked at 69% consistency in his 16 games played in 2013.

Demaryius Thomas
Consistency 100+Total Yds 125+Total Yds 150+Total Yds 1+TD 2+TD Either
69% 6 1 1 9 4 11

Keeping the consistency metric at 100 minimum total yards, but increasing the minimum touchdowns to two, tightens up the scale with Marshall achieving these numbers in seven of his 16 games which equates to 44% consistency. Compare this to wide receiver, Marques Colston, who only achieved these results in 13% of his games.

Brandon Marshall
Consistency 100+Total Yds 125+Total Yds 150+Total Yds 1+TD 2+TD Either
44% 6 1 0 10 2 7

Different consistency results can be found when you adjust the metric higher in yards to making a total of 150 yards, and/or scoring one touchdown. Bryant was able to meet these numbers in 63% of his 16 games played in 2013.

Dez Bryant
Consistency 150 Total Yds 175+Total Yds 200+Total Yds 1+TD 2+TD Either
63% 1 0 0 10 3 10

If the metric is adjusted to lessen the total yards to 75 per game, and or scoring two touchdowns, Gordon accomplished this in 71% of his total 14 games played. T.Y. Hilton, wide receiver for the Indianpolis Colts, for instance was only able to meet these standards in 38% of his games.

Josh Gordon
Consistency 75+Total Yds 100+Total Yds 125+Total Yds 1+TD 2+TD Either
71% 10 ;8 7 8 1 10

Finally, we’ll see where Johnson ranked when the consistency metrics tool is adjusted to the most difficult setting of achieving a minimum of 200 total yards in a game and/or scoring two touchdowns. Even at the most challenging setting, Johnson ranked highest among his fellow wide receivers meeting these numbers in 36% or five of his 14 games played.

Calvin Johnson
Consistency 200+Total Yds 225+Total Yds 250+Total Yds 1+TD 2+TD Either
36% 1 1 1 8 4 5

As you can see, the metrics are totally adjustable to create different or stricter ranking results among the wide receivers. When altering the metrics at their various settings, the five above-mentioned NFL wide receivers were most often ranked in the top five highest percentages for consistency during 2013.

This is a fabulous tool to utilize, not only with wide receivers, but quarterbacks, running backs and tight ends to determine who the more consistent players are and look into who is least consistent. Speaking of inconsistent, my next article will review the five most inconsistent wide receivers of 2013 based on using eDraft’s player consistency tool.
