Fantasy Football: Biggest Injuries From NFL Week 5

Cody Kessler, Quarterback, Cleveland Browns

Kessler suffered a chest injury against the New England Patriots on Sunday and did not return to the game. With him out, veteran journeyman Charlie Whitehurst was unable to do anything of substance through the air.

The good news here is that Kessler should be ready to go next week. The bad news for those of you relying on him, Josh McCown is also expected to return to practice this week. Either way, the only real impact here is on Terrelle Pryor, who has performed at a much higher clip with Kessler under center. That's something to keep an eye on here.

Eddie Lacy, Running Back, Green Bay Packers

Lacy suffered an ankle injury Sunday night against the New York Giants. He did not return to the game. Though, the starter did indicate after the game that he had no issues walking on the injured leg. As it is, this is most definitely something to keep an eye on as the week progresses. If Lacy is unable to go next week, James Starks will get the start against the Dallas Cowboys.

Jeremy Hill, Running Back, Cincinnati Bengals

Hill entered Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys with a chest injury. He proceeded to play just 15 snaps and just didn't look the part of someone capable of taking the field. We obviously are not privy to injury reports just yet, but the short-yardage back should be considered extremely questionable for next Sunday's game against the New England Patriots.

If he's unable to suit up, Giovani Bernard will be given the primary ball carrier duties. Bernard recorded 96 yards on 15 touches while catching all six of the balls thrown his way against Dallas on Sunday. He'd become a solid DFS add, especially in PPR-heavy contests, should Hill have to sit out.

Steve Smith Sr., Wide Receiver, Baltimore Ravens

Smith suffered an ankle injury against the Washington Redskins on Sunday and did not return to the game. This has to be of utmost concern for the Ravens, as Smith had put up an average of nine targets per game prior to Week 5. There's no word on the extend of the injury. But considering the Ravens immediately rules Smith out for the game, this can't be seen as good news.

If Smith is indeed forced to sit out next week, focus should turn to second-year receiver Breshad Perriman, who caught what would have been a game-winning touchdown Sunday against Washinton. Unfortunately, Perriman didn't possess the ball, something that led to a reversal of the original on-field call. If Smith is out, Perriman will play a much larger role next week.
