2016 Review

In his first full season as a NFL wide receiver, this former quarterback surprised the masses. Despite having to deal with no real talent behind him on the depth chart and the worst quarterback situation in the NFL, Pryor more than made himself a viable NFL receiver. It really was something amazing to watch.

Pryor would finish the season having recorded three 100-yard performances en route to putting up over 1,000 yards in 16 games. He also ranked in the top 10 at his position in both target distribution and 12th overall in targets. This led to a bottom-end WR2 performance from a receiver that caught passes from a foursome of quarterbacks in Cleveland that combined to throw 15 touchdowns compared to 14 interceptions.

Though, it was the lack of any real talent under center that caused some minor issues for Pryor when it came to his fantasy production. He ranked just 32nd overall in fantasy consistency and put up 30 percent of his fantasy points in just two games.

Dynasty Outlook

At this point, it looks like Clevelands will place the franchise tag on Pryor after signing Jamie Collins to a long-term extension earlier in January. That's a clear indication that Pryor will be back in the mix with the Browns next season.

What might be good news for Cleveland could cause some major issues as it relates to Pryor's fantasy relevance. On one hand, it's hard to imagine the Browns having a worst quarterback situation in 2017 than they did in 2016. Despite this, and as we mentioned above, he still finished as a bottom-end WR2 option in 12-team leagues.

On the other hand, the production we see from receivers is directly impacted by whoever they have tossing them the rock. With so many question marks at quarterback in Cleveland, it's hard to take Pryor seriously as an elite-level option. This, despite the fact that his talent suggests he is.

Free Agency Outlook

Now, should the Browns let Pryor leave in free agency, this all changes. With a plus-level quarterback under center, there's no reason to believe Pryor can't be a consistent top-10 fantasy receiver.

Also, it's important to note that Pryor would automatically become the top free agency receiver in the market. That tells us a story of a ton of teams who would line up for an opportunity to add him as a potential No. 1 receiving option.

Like most players in this series of articles, Pryor's fantasy relevance is tied to his situation in free agency. Should he move on to a squad like the New England Patriots or Carolina Panthers, we're talking about Pryor becoming one of the best statistical receivers in the NFL.

Potential Suitors: Tennessee Titans, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers, Minnesota Vikings, Carolina Panthers, Washington Redskins
