Contract Status

Osweiler just finished the final year of the rookie contract he signed with Denver after being selected in the second round of the 2012 NFL draft.

With Von Miller likely set to be given the team's franchise tag designation, it's highly likely that Osweiler will hit the open market as an unrestricted free agent. Based on his success after replacing Peyton Manning and his skill set, this is an indication that there will be a ton of interest in his services once the new league year starts next month.

There is, however, an outside chance that Osweiler will be given the franchise tag designation. While we know Miller's importance to the team (Super Bowl 50 MVP), franchise-type quarterbacks don't come around too often. If the Broncos think Osweiler is of that ilk, it will be hard not to franchise him.

2015 Year in Review

Once Osweiler took over for an injured an ineffective Manning in mid November, it really did look like the Broncos were on to something. The former second-round pick led Denver to wins in his first three starts and threw seven touchdowns compared to three interceptions in his first five starts.

Unfortunately, the shiny new man under center failed to continue with this momentum as the regular season drew to a conclusion. He tallied just two touchdowns with two picks in his final two starts, paving the way for Manning to take back over under center. The rest is history there.

Overall, Osweiler wasn't anywhere near a good fantasy play. He tallied more than two touchdowns in just one of his seven starts, finishing as a QB1 option just that one time.

This shouldn't be much of a surprise considering the way Denver was constructed. It was all about a solid running game and a dominating defense for the now defending champs. Osweiler wasn't asked to do a whole lot, but he did step up when the team needed it the most.

In terms of what we saw on film, this former Arizona State standout sure showed a solid amount of accuracy when it came to throwing down the field. Combine that with plus-level arm strength and a ridiculous 6-foot-7 frame, and there's no reason not to be excited about his prospects heading into 2016.

Potential Suitors

There would be no real limitations as it relates to Osweiler's market should the Broncos decide against franchising him. At the very least, four teams will be in the market for a new starting quarterback (Cleveland, St. Louis, Houston and Philadelphia).

That number could grow to seven if San Francisco, New York (J) and Washington don't settle their quarterback issues early in the offseason.

Of the teams that could very well be looking to add a veteran starter, the Browns would make the most sense for Osweiler. With new head coach Hue Jackson looking for his own guy under center and Johnny Manziel all but gone from Cleveland, there will definitely be a need there.

In terms of fantasy relevance for Osweiler, his best possible situation would likely be the Jets. With Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker and Devin Smith slated to be the team's top-three receivers, Osweiler would be going to the perfect situation. Though, New York's interest in a quarterback will primarily be tied to whether Ryan Fitzpatrick, also a soon-to-be free agent, is retained.
