With news that the Buffalo Bills have released Karlos Williams, it now appears that Reggie Bush will be the team's primary backup behind LeSean McCoy. That's most definitely an interesting turn of events considering the injury-plagued Bush just signed earlier this month and has missed 16 games over the past two seasons.
This is an indication that McCoy will see a heavier work load in 2016 should he remain healthy. Something to the tune of 300-plus attempts seems reasonable. And should Bush remain healthy (a big if), he's likely looking at being a solid deep bench option in PPR-heavy 12-team contests. Though, his value is still through the early-season waiver-wire, nothing more.
After suffering a bone bruise in the knee during training camp, Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jordan Matthews is expected to miss the entire preseason. Though, Matthews did indicate on Saturday that he's planning on being ready for Week 1.
If that truly is the case, Matthews represents WR1 upside in an Eagles' offense that's void of much experience behind him on the depth chart. Should Matthews get back to full health and remain healthy, there's no reason to believe he won't see 150-plus targets this season.
Washington Redskins running back Matt Jones suffered an AC sprain in his shoulder during Friday's game. He was seen wearing a cast following the game, but it doesn't appear that the team is too worried about Jones' long-term prognosis. He's slated to be the team's starting running back and should see upwards of 250-plus rush attempts this season. That will make Jones a decent mid-tier RB2 option in 12-team contests.
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald has what the team is describing a minor MCL sprain. The future Hall of Famer missed Arizona's game Thursday night and will likely be held out of the remaining two preseason games. Though, there's not much to worry about from a fantasy football perspective. Look for him to still act the part of a mid-tier WR2 option. Though, definitely keep an eye on this as the summer progresses.
After what has been a strong preseason performance thus far, Chicago Bears running back Jeremy Langford seems to be the team's top running back. Unfortunately, Langford suffered an undisclosed foot injury either during Chicago's outing this past Thursday or during practice the following day. Either way, Langford was seen in practice on Saturday wearing a walking boot.
That should be of some concern for the Bears and those who are relying on Langford from a fantasy perspective this season. We'll have updates as they become available.
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater sat out the team's preseason game on Thursday. And while head coach Mike Zimmer indicated after the game that it had nothing to do with injury, Bridgewater has been held out of practice since with an undisclosed shoulder injury. There's no telling one way or another what's going on here. Though, there's no real reason to be concerned. It's likely nothing more than the Vikings being cautious during the preseason.
On the other hand, Colin Kaepernick continues to sit out for the San Francisco 49ers with a "dead arm." He missed both of the team's preseason games and has not practiced over the past week-plus. Couple that with the torn ACL Thad Lewis suffered, and San Francisco was forced to sign Christian Ponder off the street earlier this week.
All this is an indication that Blaine Gabbert will be the team's Week 1 starter. As with Bridgewater in Minnesota, there's no real fantasy upside here. While Teddy might be worth a late-round pick as a QB2 option, Gabbert is nothing more than a potential early-season waiver-wire pickup should he succeed in Chip Kelly's system.
