Week 13 is officially in the books and you know what that means: Fantasy Football Playoffs start this week. If you were lucky enough to make it this far; congratulations! Now the real fun begins. This is a hard time of year to still find quality players on the waiver wire, but if you’re in need of help at running back, wide receiver or tight end; these guys could definitely help you make the push for the championship.
James Starks, Running Back Green Bay Packers
Starks is owned in just seven percent of fantasy leagues, and has seen a steady increase in carries and production in the last three weeks. Last week against the Vikings, Starks ran for 66 yards and a touchdown, good for 14 fantasy points. With the Packers’ pass-offense continuing to struggle and wide receiver Jordy Nelson likely out with a nagging hamstring injury; look for the Packers to rely more heavily on Starks this week against the Lions.
Projection: 10 points
Jonathan Dwyer, Running Back, Pittsburgh Steelers
With Rashard Mendenhall demoted to third-string last week, Dwyer did a good job against the Ravens’ defense, rushing for 49 yards and a touchdown. He had 12 fantasy points and is currently only owned in 41 percent of leagues. Dwyer should have a similar performance again this week.
Projection: 10 points
Josh Gordon, Wide Receiver, Cleveland Browns
Gordon is owned in just under a quarter of all leagues. The Browns have been on a roll lately, winning two games in a row. Quarterback Brandon Weeden has been making much smarter decisions with the ball, and Gordon appears to be his favorite target. Over the last two games he’s amassed 24 fantasy points on 10 catches for 176 and a touchdown.
Projection: 14 points
Donnie Avery, Wide Receiver, Indianapolis Colts
Avery has been mostly ineffective all season, owned in only eight-percent of all leagues. But, he was the Hero of the game on Sunday, scoring the game-winning touchdown as time expired against the Lions. Avery had his best game of the season, with five receptions for 91 yards and two touchdowns; good for 21 fantasy points. With teams looking to put extra coverage on Reggie Wayne and T.Y. Hilton, Avery could see more targets from quarterback Andrew Luck. If you’re hurting for receivers, he could be a viable option.
Projection: Eight points
Martellus Bennett, Tight End, New York Giants
Bennett is owned in 52 percent of all leagues, so he might be a bit hard to find, but if you have Gronkowski or are in need of a tight end, Bennett is definitely worth a look. Quarterback Eli Manning is Resurgent, despite the loss on Monday Night Football to the Redskins, and the Giants are due for their annual late-season playoff push. Bennett had 82 receiving yards for a touchdown in the loss; good for 14 fantasy points.
projection: Eight points
Brandon Myers, Tight End, Oakland Raiders
Myers was the best fantasy tight end last week, with 19 points and is actually the fifth best fantasy tight end this season. Despite all of this, he’s only owned in 22 percent of all leagues. Over the last five games, he’s averaging 12 points. Unfortunately, his success hinges greatly on quarterback Carson Palmer’s ability to limit mistakes and make good passes, which he’s perfectly capable of.
Projection: Six points
We’re in the thick of the playoffs now, competing with the best-of-the-best. If you’re hurting at any position, these guys could be a valuable pick-up to help solidify your playoff roster.
