1. Carson Wentz, Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia ranks fourth in the NFL in passing during the preseason, primarily playing backups. Wentz has completed a robust 10-of-13 passes for 112 yards with a touchdown and zero picks. It just makes too much sense for him to toss the ball around a whole lot against Miami, as the Eagles look to build Wentz's connection with Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith.
2. Jared Goff, Los Angeles Rams
Goff has been splendid this preseason, completing 19-of-24 passes for 194 yards with a touchdown and zero interceptions. It also makes sense that the Rams will want him on the field a lot in the team's primary tune-up game under first-year head coach Sean McVay. Add in the need to build a relationship with the recently acquired Sammy Watkins, and that's magnified further.
3. Tom Brady, New England Patriots
New England has thrown an absurd 83 passes in two preseason games, only nine of them coming from Brady himself. Expect that to change Friday against the Detroit Lions. Brady wants his reps, and the Pats are going o give them to him. Look for 20-plus attempts from the future Hall of Famer here.
4. Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints
Pretty much the same situation as New England, it would not be a shock to see Brees put the ball up 25 to 30 times against the Houston Texans on Saturday. He has yet to throw a single pass in the preseason. That must change if the Saints hope for their future Hall of Fame quarterback to get into rhythm here. Also look for Michael Thomas, Willie Snead, Adrian Peterson and the rest of the starters to get play here.
5. Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys
We're fully expecting Ezekiel Elliott to give it a go against the Oakland Raiders this week. More to the point, the Raiders have been burnt alive by the likes of Drew Stanton, Blaine Gabbert and Jared Goff thus far in the preseason. They just h ave not been able to stop anyone. Prescott did see action last week, completing 7-of-8 passes for 106 yards and a touchdown. Look for him to expand on that against a poor Raiders pass defense this weekend.
