1. Tom Brady, New England Patriots
FanDuel: $8,700
DraftKings: $7,500
There really shouldn't be any strong debate about this. We all know Brady and the Patriots are going to set fire to the NFL with him back, this is going to be a pissed off revenge mission against every NFL defense they face. Naturally, because the football gods are not kind to the Cleveland Browns, Brady faces the Browns defense in the first game back. Cleveland has allowed over 1,000 passing yards this season and was just torched by Jordan Reed for two touchdowns.
In the debut of the Tom Brady revenge tour, we are ready to watch greatness take on a very bad defense. This will be a heavy passing game for New England and even if they take a big lead, they aren't going to slow down the reign of its offense. Brady is reasonably priced this week with a tremendous matchup and if you're going to play multiple lineups in daily fantasy sports this week, make sure several have Brady as a part of them.
2. Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers
FanDuel: $8,600
DraftKings: $7,200
We may not see a five-touchdown game again but Sunday Night Football showed what it means for the Steelers offense when Le'Veon Bell is back there. This offense runs smoothly when arguably the best running back in the game is back there, with an All Pro caliber running back that makes defense have to pay extra attention tot he running game, all while having to try and get pressure on Big Ben and find a way to cover Antonio Brown.
Now they'll face the New York Jets who let a hobbled Russell Wilson throw for over 300 yards with three passing touchdowns and a much weaker supporting cast around him. This is an elite quarterback with an elite matchup in a game that could get ugly very quickly for New York, especially at home where Roethlisberger has most of his success. The Steelers, like the Patriots, could make for a great stack play in Week 5.
3. Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers
FanDuel: $9,300
DraftKings:
We have to be careful here. It's early in the week and Newton is only in the early stages of the concussion protocol, so his status for Week 5 is unknown. But if he plays, the matchups don't get much better than this. After allowing two touchdowns and over 230 yards combined to Trevor Siemian and an untested Paxton Lynch, they could get nuked by Newton, Kelvin Benjamin and the other Panthers. They also don't create turnovers, with nine passing touchdowns allowed to just one interception. Given his poor performance in Week 4, he could be an even better play if frustrated DFS players don't turn to him again.
4. Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers
FanDuel: $8,300
DraftKings: $6,900
While he may no longer have his top weapons, Rivers still has enough to take advantage of this matchup. In four games, the Oakland Raiders have allowed the most passing yards (1,302) and fifth-highest yards per attempt (8.3). San Diego has wide receivers in Travis Benjamin and Tyrell Williams that can beat the Raiders' secondary on slants and deep routes, which can create big play opportunities. San Diego also has a reputation for giving up points, which is good news for fantasy owners as Rivers will have to keep throwing to try and make up for it.
5. Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts
FanDuel: $8,600
DraftKings: $7,300
The matchup looks very nice on paper. The Chicago Bears entire defense, including its secondary, has been ripped to shreds by injuries. Now they have to face Luck and the Colts offense in Indianapolis, which should pose some problems. But there's some reason to be iffy on Luck, especially after he didn't take much advantage of the porous Jacksonville Jaguars defense until the Colts trailed by three scores and went into catch up mode. Playing at home should definitely help and Chicago doesn't have the caliber of cornerback to cover T.Y. Hilton, but there's just some uncertainty here on how much Luck fulfills on this opportunity.
6. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers
FanDuel: $9,100
DraftKings: $7,700
There is still uncomfortableness with where Rodgers should land as a fantasy quarterback each week. Coming off the bye, there's the optimistic view that the offense had time to reenergize, work out issues and get in a flow, but as of now the offense just doesn't have a great reputation. Jordy Nelson hasn't shown the same explosiveness of years past, Randall Cobb isn't seeing a lot of work and Davante Adams is frustratingly inconsistent. To make matters worse, Rodgers doesn't look the same. He seems different, mechanics a hair off and that's all the difference you need for some drop off. While this could be a good matchup depending on the health of the New York Giants secondary, there's real risk here.
7. Andy Dalton, Cincinnati Bengals
FanDuel: $7,800
DraftKings: $5,900
While the Dallas Cowboys have limited their past two opponents to 17 points, they faced Blaine Gabbert this past Sunday and a horrible decision making Jay Cutler. The results should be much different against the Cincinnati Bengals. First, the Bengals will likely welcome back Tyler Eifert, who should serve as a great red zone threat and help move the chains. But of course the focus here is A.J. Green, who just torched the Miami Dolphins. Dallas doesn't have the type of player who can match up with Green and this should make for a very nice day for Dalton when a few other top quarterbacks are banged up or have tough matchups.
8. Derek Carr, Oakland Raiders
FanDuel: $8,100
DraftKings: $6,800
While the San Diego Chargers secondary is high quality and could do a good job limiting opposing passing games, they haven't recently. Especially late in games, this defense seems to collapse and that's when the yards come, which is reflected by the 1,158 passing yards they've allowed so far this season. Amari Cooper should be able to make a few things happen, though this more projects to be a bigger game for Michael Crabtree once again. In a game that should go back and forth with points, Carr should able to do more than enough against San Diego to remain a top-10 fantasy quarterback.
9. Eli Manning, New York Giants
FanDuel: $7,700
DraftKings: $6,000
Manning's start against the Minnesota Vikings went very poorly, but that's to be expected given how great Mike Zimmer's defense is. Things should get a little easier against the Green Bay Packers, who will likely be without top cornerback Sam Shields once again. That's bad news for Green Bay, who has seen Damarious Randall get toasted by lesser wide receivers than Odell Beckham Jr. While Manning will have to deal with pressure from a stout Packers' front seven, he has the weapons to put up numbers against this secondary.
10. Kirk Cousins, Washington
FanDuel: $7,500
DraftKings: $6,100
Cousins has found a connection with Jordan Reed once again and that's great news for fantasy owners. The pair will rack up the yards and touchdowns and help bring the defense more in on Reed, allowing for DeSean Jackson to make more deep plays. While the Ravens defense has been strong this season, it's a different type of test when facing a tight end of Reed's caliber and covering a vertical threat like Jackson. Washington will also give up plenty of points, putting the offense in a position to have to make up for it and that always make for some compelling opportunities for fantasy.
11. Carson Wentz, Philadelphia Eagles
FanDuel: $7,500
DraftKings: $6,400
The young rookie has far surpassed any expectations people had for him early this season, displaying a tremendous skillset as part of the Eagles 3-0 start to the season and of course his fantasy success. Wentz had nearly 770 passing yards in three games and showed some great touch on his passes, especially with some precision strikes in the end zone. A matchup against the Detroit Lions, who have allowed the 12th-most passing yards per game through four weeks, sets up Wentz for fantasy success. Detroit has struggled to generate a lot of pressure on the quarterback this year and if they are going to give Wentz a lot of time to throw, he'll rack up the yards and touchdowns.
12. Jameis Winston, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
FanDuel: $7,400
DraftKings: $5,800
Winston has not been good lately, plain and simple. Part of that is the lack of a running game and a one-man receiving corps, but there's just also been some bad throws. But we're still turning to him on Monday Night Football against a Carolina Panthers defense that has struggled to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks and was just shredded by Julio Jones for 300 yards. Evans may not be on Jones' tier of receivers, but he is still a great one. The Winston-Evans combo should be strong on Monday with a lot of strikes for big plays and in the red zone, with some looks to Cameron Brate mixed in. Winston could have been a top-10 play if he were having a strong sophomore season, but he slides a bit in this strong matchup. If you are a Cam Newton fantasy owner and he isn't ruled out until very late in the week, Winston could be a very intriguing replacement in Week 5.
