Geno Smith put up impressive numbers in his four years at the helm of West Virginia's offense and was widely considered the top-rated quarterback in this year’s draft class and was thought to be the first quarterback selected by most. Character concerns eventually caused Smith’s value to take a serious hit and pushed him into the second round. In the end, the New York Jets selected him at No. 39 overall to compete with Mark Sanchez for the starting role in 2013. Let’s take a look at Smith’s potential fantasy impact in New York.
College Stats | Year | Comp | Att | Pct | Yds | INT's | TD's |

| 2010 | 241 | 372 | 6408 | 2,763 | 7 | 24 |
| 2011 | 346 | 526 | 65.8 | 4,385 | 7 | 31 |
| 2012 | 369 | 518 | 71.2 | 4,205 | 6 | 42 |

So far this offseason, Smith has taken the majority of snaps with the first-team offense in OTA’s and significantly more than Sanchez. Smith is talented and has the potential to be better than Sanchez with some polishing and head coach Rex Ryan could be desperate for a change at quarterback to hopefully save his job. On the right team, Smith could put up big numbers, even as a rookie. But on the Jet’s roster, with a pieced-together offensive line and a lack of depth and talent at wide receiver; Smith is likely going to struggle heavily out of the gate.
At this point, it’s almost a forgone conclusion that Smith will win the starting job over Sanchez for 2013. In standard, 12 man redraft leagues, Smith is a bench QB option only. He’s going to put up decent numbers, but unless you’re in a two quarterback league, you shouldn’t rely on Smith for even one start. In dynasty leagues, Smith is a good option for the future, especially if you have an aging starter currently entrenched on your roster.
2013 Stat Projections: 382 completions, 3,100 passing yards, 18 touchdowns, 16 interceptions, 125 rushing yards and 1 rushing touchdown.
