Fantasy Football: Should Nick Foles' Preseason Performance Worry Us?

In thirteen games in 2013 Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback’ Nick Foles threw just two interceptions on his way to a record-setting TD to INT performance. In the first quarter of the team’s preseason opener, Foles threw just as many interceptions.

Is this a trend to be worried about moving forward? Probably not, but it is certainly not a welcome sign for a starter entering his first full season under center. Though Foles may look like a Napoleon of the same name, his play has been absolutely dynamite. Philadelphia went from utter uncertainty at quarterback to a player it believes to be championship caliber. Though Foles will not be considered this way long if he continues this type of play.

Chip Kelly’s offense requires a tremendous sense of awareness from its signal-caller, as each play has multiple options and reads to progress through. The system is centered upon creating mismatches, then exploiting them repeatedly, something Foles did well in 2013, and poorly against the Bears.

While this first start to a season is worrisome, there is no reason to jump off the Walt Whitman Bridge yet Eagles’ fans. Foles just needs to get back into a rhythm with some new pieces in his offense, and a fill-in on the offensive line in Allen Barbre. Once Foles regains his form, this offense will be just fine as a favorite to win the NFC East.
