Fantasy Football Slant: 5 Under-the-Radar Players Set to Make Major Impacts in Final Three Weeks

Every single season there are certain fantasy players that come out of nowhere at the end of the year to change the entire dynamic of the fantasy season.

During Week 15 of last season, Alex Smith found himself as the fourth-best quarterback, behind the likes of Drew Brees, Matt Ryan and Eli Manning

At wide receiver, then Atlanta Falcons veteran Harry Douglas recorded 10 receptions for 131 yards en route to the sixth-best performance at his position.

This promises to remain true in 2015.

Here's a look at five under-the-radar players set to make a dramatic impact as the season concludes.

1. David Johnson, Running Back, Arizona Cardinals

Coming off consecutive games that saw him put up 100-plus total yards, Johnson has obviously taken the opportunity injuries has presented him and is running with it. Now that Andre Ellington looks less than questionable for this week's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, it's readily apparent that Johnson will continue to see a nice amount of touches in Week 15.

More than that, there are no suggestions pointing to the idea that Ellington will take over the primary ball-carrier duties when he does return. With a Week 16 game coming up against a Green Bay Packers defense that has played the run pretty well, Johnson may not have himself a huge game there. He will, however, have the necessary touches to make a solid impact.

2. Tyler Lockett, Wide Receiver, Seattle Seahawks

Lockett is averaging 50 snaps over his past five games — a clear indication that Seattle is willing to let the rookie play a larger role in the offense. It paid off to the tune of six catches, 104 yards and two touchdowns last week against the Baltimore Ravens. Even more amazing, Lockett has caught 41 of the 51 passes thrown in his direction this season, including 20-of-22 over the past five games. That's just insane.

With a game coming up against a bad Cleveland Browns pass defense followed by an outing at home against the St. Louis Rams, the expectation here has to be that Lockett will continue to make a strong impact as the season winds down.

3. Richard Rodgers, Tight End, Green Bay Packers

Coming off a one-catch performance against Dallas last week, there are some that will conclude Rodgers' recent success was nothing more than a fluke. However, that's a narrative this one scribe isn't willing to follow.

Green Bay's receivers have been absolutely atrocious in 2015. Consider this: Davante Adams — potentially the team's top receiver with Randall Cobb struggling big time — has caught 21 of the 46 passes thrown to him over the past five games, tallying a total of one touchdown during that span. Ouch!

At the very least, Aaron Rodgers knows he can get the ball to his namesake at tight end on a consistent basis. Rodgers has caught 70 percent of the passes thrown in his direction this year. He's also averaging about six targets per game over his past six outings.

4. Shaun Draughn, Running Back, San Francisco 49ers

Draughn may have struggled last week against Cleveland, averaging just four yards per touch. He is, however, averaging 4.4 yards per touch in five games with San Francisco. During that span, the veteran is averaging 18.2 touches per game. That has him among the top running backs in the NFL in terms of workload.

With San Francisco pretty much playing out the string in what has been a disastrous season, Draughn figures to continue compiling touches at this clip. After tough matchup this week against Cincinnati, the 49ers take on a Detroit Lions team that ranks in the middle of the pack against fantasy running backs and a St. Louis Rams defense that has allowed the eighth-most fantasy points to this position.

5. Seth Roberts, Wide Receiver, Oakland Raiders

This second-year un-drafted free agent out of West Alabama has picked it up recently while being given a chance to contribute in what has been a vastly improved Raiders wide receiver group. He is averaging 54.5 receiving yards over the past four games, scoring three total touchdowns during that span. Roberts has also averaging about 35 snaps per game as the Raiders No. 3 receiver behind Michael Crabtree and Amari Cooper

After taking on a good Green Bay Packers secondary this week, Oakland will be taking on struggling secondaries in San Diego and Kansas City, the latter of which from a fantasy perspective only.
