Fantasy Football: Top Rumors Surrounding Running Backs

Adrian Peterson to the Defending Champs?

After seeing the Minnesota Vikings decline his $18 million option for the 2017 season, Peterson is set to hit the free-agent market for the first time in his career. He will do so in a market that's not necessarily favorable to the future Hall of Famer. This lends credence to the idea that Peterson may end up taking less cash in an attempt to latch on with a Super Bowl contender. If so, why not the defending champion New England Patriots?

Earlier in the week, there was a report that Peterson may indeed take a paycut to join the Patriots. That has since been refuted by NFL Media's MIke Garafolo, but it surely seems to make sense. LeGarrette Blount is set to become a free agent — meaning New England will likely be in the market.

Teaming Peterson up with fellow future Hall of Famer Tom Brady would be huge for New England. The 31-year-old running back played in just three games this past season after suffering a knee injury. Though, he did lead the NFL in rush attempts, rushing yards and rushing touchdowns back in 2015.

Broncos Interested in Danny Woodhead

Remember, it was just two years ago that Woodhead finished as the sixth-best fantasy running back in the NFL. That season saw him put up 80 receptions and nearly 1,100 total yards. Fresh off missing all but two games of the 2016 season due to a torn ACL, the 32-year-old Woodhead is apparently drawing interest from the Denver Broncos.

With C.J. Anderson himself coming off an injury and Devontae Booker failing to do much as a rookie, this makes a ton of sense. Depending on who the Broncos have under center, Woodhead would be a PPR stud in the fake football world should he sign with the team.

LeGarrette Blount Gone From New England?

It sure looks like the Patriots will not re-sign Blount. This has long been expected considering the 30-year-old back is going to be on high demand in free agency. It also leads us to believe Blount is looking for a starting job elsewhere. He led the NFL with 18 rushing touchdowns while putting up nearly 1,200 yards on the ground this past season. The market will surely be there. It just remains to be seen where Blount will land, as he has not been mentioned as a possibiltiy for any running back-needy team as of yet.

Jamaal Charles to the Eagles?

Philadelphia has already noted that it's interested in Charles after he was released by the Kansas City Chiefs last month. It makes sense considering Ryan Mathews is unlikely to be back with the team and Darren Sproles is not anywhere near a three-down back in the NFL. Adding to the intrigue, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson is the former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator. Charles has played in a combined eight games over the past two seasons.
