Fantasy Football: Top Week 8 Waiver Wire Pickups

Case Keenum - Quarterback, Houston Texans

Keenum was thrust into a sticky situation this past week, being tasked with making his first career start on the road in Kansas City against the Chiefs’ top-ranked defense.  While the team didn’t get the win, Keenum played extremely well and looked like a poised veteran in the pocket, throwing for 271 yards and a touchdown - racking up 13.84 fantasy points on the day.  moving forward, Keenum is surrounded with the talent necessary to have success.  Jay Cutler owners should definitely try to snag Keenum this week, who is owned in less than one percent of leagues right now.

Jarrett Boykin - Wide Receiver, Green Bay Packers

I wrote about Boykin last week, due to the injuries to Randall Cobb and James Jones, but apparently no one listened as he’s still available in over 98 percent of leagues.  Boykin had a huge game Sunday, finishing as the sixth-best fantasy receiver with 16.30 points.  Now with Jermichael Finley out indefinitely and Jones set to miss at least 2 more weeks, Boykin is going to get at least half of Aaron Rodgers targets as defenses look to shutdown Jordy Nelson. Julio Jones, Reggie Wayne and even Miles Austin owners should all look at Boykin.

Jordan Reed - Tight End, Washington Redskins

Another guy I’ve previously written about, but apparently no one was listening. Reed dominated this week as the top fantasy tight end with 19.40 points. The talented rookie is Washington’s No. 1 tight end moving forward and seems to be establishing a great relationship with Robert Griffin III which means he’s going to get plenty of targets and should finish every week in TE1 territory.  He’s still only owned in 3.8 percent of leagues, so get that claim in now while you still can.

Roy Helu - Running Back, Washington Redskins

Helu racked up three touchdowns on just 41 rushing yards, good for 22.60 fantasy points and second-best among running backs for the week.  Moving forward, Helu isn’t just a handcuff for Alfred Morris owners anymore, but has moved into solid FLEX option territory.  He’s owned in 37.5 percent of leagues, so this could be the last week you have a chance at him, don’t miss out if you need the help.

Harry Douglas - Wide Receiver, Atlanta Falcons

With Jones out for the season and Roddy White still hampered by injury, Douglas is going to get a boatload of targets for the rest of the season.  With all of the injuries to big-name wide receivers this year, Douglas is a great replacement option for the rest of the season.  He’s owned in 37.7 percent of leagues currently, and after a big day with 20.90 fantasy points (fifth best among receivers), look for that number to sky rocket this week.  Get that claim in NOW.

Sneaky Stashes

Andre Brown (RB, NYG) and Shane Vereen (RB, NEP)

Both running backs are going to be back on the field soon, are highly talented and will get a ton of touches in their respective offenses. Right now, not many owners are going to be thinking this far down the road, and both could have a huge impact on your ability to make a late push for the championship.  If you need running back help, take a look at this guys now while no one is suspecting it.  While Vereen will be hard to find as he’s owned in 73.3 percent of leagues and will be harder to find, Brown is owned in less than 20 percent and should be an easy stash.
