Fantasy Football Week 10: Sit These 3 Quarterbacks

The list of injured quarterback continues to grow, with Aaron Rodgers going down on Monday night with a fractured collarbone. Other injured quarterbacks include Michael Vick, Jay Cutler (who could potentially be back for Sunday’s game), Sam Bradford, Matt Schaub and E.J. Manuel. Even with the number of viable fantasy quarterbacks dwindling, there are three quarterbacks that should be avoided in Week 10.

Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons continue to regress as a team each week, yet Ryan has remained a solid fantasy quarterback. However, the past two weeks have been rough for him, throwing a combined two touchdowns and seven interceptions in his last two games against the Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers. Things won’t be looking up any time soon for Ryan, who has to take on the Seattle Seahawks in Week 10. Seattle is allowing the second least amount of fantasy quarterbacks per game (10) and are second in the league in passing defense, allowing just 179.8 yards per game. Ryan should be sat in virtually all leagues unless he’s the only viable quarterback option this week.

Seneca Wallace, Green Bay Packers

Wallace is going to be a popular pickup this week as a replacement for Rodgers owners. However, the Packers seem content to stick to the ground game when Rodgers is out. Wallace only attempted 19 passes in relief of Rodgers Monday night, whereas Eddie Lacy had 22 carries and 150 yards. Yes, the Eagles are allowing over 18 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks, but they are still 15th in the league in rushing defense. Green Bay will look to control the clock in this one against the poor Philadelphia defense. Even if Nick Foles has another great game, Wallace simply doesn’t have the arm to keep up in a shootout.

Note: Even if Matt Flynn starts (he was just picked up by the Packers on Tuesday), he won’t be prepared to take over that offense, and should also be avoided.

Colin Kaepernick, San Francisco 49ers

Kaepernick has had a fairly quiet year after all the hype he received in the offseason, although the 49ers are playing great football. The last game that Kaepernick played in (Week 8 against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London) he proved me wrong and played a significantly larger role in the offense than expected, scoring 27 fantasy points. However, he won’t be as fortunate this week against the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers are the best team against fantasy quarterbacks, giving up less than 10 points per game. Kaepernick also derived much of his fantasy value from two rushing touchdowns against the Jaguars. The Panthers haven’t allowed a rushing touchdown to a quarterback this season, and Kaepernick has only broken 200 passing yards twice this season. This isn’t a good matchup for Kaepernick, who has really struggled throwing the ball this year, look for guys like Jake Locker or Jay Cutler to have better games in Week 10.
