Your weekly dose of Sit These Wide Receivers is here. Not many big name receivers are on bye this week so there is a lot of depth to work with. Take these players into consideration to leave on your bench for Week 10.
Larry Fitzgerald, Cardinals
Fitzgerald is another one of those players who is up and down on a week to week basis. This past week was his up week where he had four catches for 48 yards and a touchdown. Not much of an up week but for Fitzgerald that what it is. This week he hosts the Houston Texans who have been very poor against wide receivers the past two games giving up over 150 yards in each of them. I believe that the Texans will play inspired football after what happened to coach Gary Kubiak against the Colts this weekend. I expect them to return to form and shut down the receiving core of the Arizona Cardinals.
Projections: Three receptions, 40 yards, zero touchdowns
Anquan Boldin, 49ers
Due to the poor fantasy performances, I don’t see Bolden even worth starting as a flex player. He hasn’t scored a touchdown since week four and they play the Carolina Panthers this week. Now you would think that means Boldin can possibly have a decent fantasy performance right? As ESPN analyst Lee Corso would say, “Not so fast my friend!” The Panthers are ranked second among opposing fantasy receivers and has only given up two receiving touchdowns all year; the last one in week two. With that being said, Boldin is a solid sit em for this week.
Projections: Four receptions, 55 yards, zero touchdowns
Steve Johnson, Bills
As predicted last week, Johnson was going to have minimal fantasy value. This week it doesn’t change. Johnson and the Bills are traveling to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers who have been pretty efficient in defending receivers. Baring last week’s debacle in New England where the Steelers defense was absent, they have only given up three receiving touchdowns all year.
It makes matters worse when there is no clear starting quarterback for the Bills with Thaddeus Lewis and E.J. Manuel slowly recovering. This inconsistency at that position spells disaster for the receiving core and makes Johnson part of our sit list.
Projections: Six receptions, 62 yards, zero touchdowns
Harry Douglas, Falcons
Douglas has been an essential fantasy flex play with Julio Jones and Roddy White out with injury. His numbers have been very good the past three weeks with receiving yards that add up to over 300 yards and a touchdown. This week will be a little tougher for him as he prepares for the Seattle Seahawks. We all know the strength of the Seattle defense and how they can shut down offenses. The Falcons offense has been very weak the past few games and if that continues into this week, the Seahawks defense could possibly shut down the entire Falcons offense. In turn, Douglas will come down to earth and not have is high fantasy stats at least for this week.
Projections: Six receptions, 75 yards, zero touchdowns
Steve Smith, Panthers
Smith has been underperforming the past two weeks and it hurts even more when it was against two weak defenses where he should’ve had better numbers. Now this week he and the Panthers travel to San Francisco where the 49ers defense is going to be fresh and ready to play coming off the bye. Quarterback Cam Newton is playing great but cannot seem to find Smith in the end zone. Smith is consistent with the amount of targets and receptions but has trouble getting more than 60 receiving yards in a game. Eventually Smith is going to break a few tackles and short gain to a long touchdown but those chances are slim for this week. Sit Smith for this game.
Projections: Five receptions, 50 yards, zero touchdowns
