Fantasy Football Week 12: Sit These 3 Quarterbacks

Fantasy Football Week 12: Sit These 3 Quarterbacks

In these last few weeks of the regular fantasy season, and heading into the playoffs, personnel moves are magnified. A three-point difference between your bench player and your starter could come back to haunt you until the next summer’s draft. That’s why it’s best to avoid these three quarterbacks in Week 12, and look other places to find a fantasy quarterback, even with Russell Wilson, Nick Foles and Andy Dalton on bye.

Robert Griffin III, Washington Redskins

Griffin has rebounded after posting two games of single-digit fantasy points in Weeks 8 and 9 by posting point totals of 30 and 23 in consecutive weeks. After throwing a last-second interception in the end zone on Sunday against the Eagles, and essentially killing any chance the Redskins had of making the playoffs, Griffin will struggle against the San Francisco 49ers this week. Opposing quarterbacks have a 1:1 touchdown-to-interception ratio against the 49ers, who are allowing just over 12 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks. Even against defenses who are supposed to allow passing yards, Griffin has struggled, scoring just seven points in Week 9 against the San Diego Chargers and eight points in Week 3 when the Redskins played the Lions at home. Owners also shouldn’t expect for Griffin to put up the 44 rushing yards he had on Sunday, leaving him with nothing but a sub-par fantasy day.

Ryan Tannehill, Miami Dolphins

Usually, Tannehill wouldn’t be on the list, mainly because he’s not a regular fantasy starter. But with Dalton, Foles and Wilson all out this week and Aaron Rodgers and Jay Cutler still out with injuries, Tannehill could be a potential pickup. He is available in 74 percent of Yahoo! leagues, and he’s at least been consistent as a fantasy quarterback this season. He’s yet to score less than 11 fantasy points in a game, and has had games of 17, 16 and 14 points this year. But he’ll struggle mightily against the Carolina Panthers defense, who are allowing the least amount of fantasy points to quarterbacks. Controversial penalties aside, the Panthers were dominant in Monday night’s matchup against the New England Patriots, and held Tom Brady to just 12 points, and Tannehill is obviously no Brady. Tannehill could be a potential pickup for a one-week start, but avoid him at all costs.

Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons

You would think sitting Ryan would be a no-brainer at this point, but he was started in 63 percent of Yahoo! leagues last week and 63.6 percent of ESPN leagues. In Week 12, Ryan’s starting percentage should be close to the 15 percent, only playing in leagues where two quarterbacks are needed to field a roster. In the last four games, Ryan has eight interceptions, two of which have been returned for touchdowns (which is great news for owners of Seattle’s defense). Ryan won’t the 12-point mark this week against the Seahawks, who are allowing fewer than 10 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks. The Falcons are making a run for one of the five worst teams in the NFL at this point, and Ryan just doesn’t have enough upside to play him for the rest of the year.
