Who doesn’t love a good fantasy football surprise? Take, for example, Alex Smith’s 27-point performance on Sunday against the San Diego Chargers. Or the previously struggling Colin Kaepernick’s 29-point day Monday night. But there can also be some bad surprises when fantasy quarterbacks struggle, and here are three who could see low point totals in Week 13.
Mike Glennon, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
With the various quarterback injuries and bye weeks, Glennon had been a popular spot starter when he took over the job in Tampa. Since taking over for Josh Freeman in Week 4, he had broken 15 fantasy points in all but one game. But with all teams playing this week, Glennon should be benched, especially against the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers are allowing the least amount of fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks (less than 10 per game). In his eight starts, Glennon has also been touchdown-reliant for his fantasy production, only breaking 250 yards three times. Carolina has allowed just nine passing touchdowns this season, while forcing 15 interceptions. Don’t start him for any reason this week.
Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts
I’m not going to jump on the “The Indianapolis Colts are Terrible Now” bandwagon, but Luck won’t be a good fantasy play this week. The Colts won’t miss the playoffs, but they are struggling to find offensive production with Reggie Wayne out and virtually no production from Trent Richardson, and they get a touch defensive matchup in the Tennessee Titans. Tennessee is allowing less than 12 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks, and Luck has scored just 13 points twice in his last three games. When Luck played the Titans two weeks ago, he didn’t throw a touchdown, and mustered just 232 yards in a win. Expect similar production from Luck, except the rushing touchdown he had in Week 11.
Tom Brady, New England Patriots
Brady has been finding a way to win this year, but his fantasy production just hasn’t been there. Coming off of a 23-point game in the Sunday night thriller against the Denver Broncos, Brady will face the Houston Texans, who have the best passing defense in the NFL in terms of yardage. The Texans are also allowing just over 14 points per game to opposing quarterbacks, which is bad news for Brady, who has had six games of less than 15 fantasy points (including three single-digit fantasy point games). With Rob Gronkowski back, Brady will find the end zone more often, but the Texans will stop him from getting anywhere close to 275 yards.
