For our 16th and final waiver-wire article of the season, we're narrowing down our focus to one player per position. As the fake football season enters the championship round, you need to be more picky about who you might add. Said player should be an upgrade over what you have and must possess starter qualities. These four players have just that, depending on where you are at in terms of your roster make up.
Colin Kaepernick, Quarterback, San Francisco 49ers
Kaepernick has now put up six QB1 fantasy performances in his nine starts this season. That's a lot more consistent than some quarterbacks people are relaying on heading into the championship week of fantasy football. Think about that for a second before you decide to throw this idea completely out the window. Overall this season, Kaepernick has accounted for 14 touchdowns compared to just three interceptions.
He's also set to take on a Los Angeles Rams team that's given up the third-most fantasy points to quarterbacks in the past quarter season. That's important to note, especially if you're relying on a less-than-stellar option in your championship round.
Ty Montgomery, Running Back, Green Bay Packers
Barring something unforeseen from Jonathan Stewart or Rob Kelley Monday night, Montgomery will finish as the top fantasy running back this week. He put up 162 yards and two touchdowns on just 16 attempts against the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
Now the Packers' unquestioned No. 1 running back, Montgomery has a date with a Minnesota Vikings squad that gave up over 100 yards to Frank Gore on Sunday. If he's available, add him ASAP.
Cameron Meredith, Wide Receiver, Chicago Bears
Even with Alshon Jeffery back in the mix on Sunday, Meredith found a way to catch 9-of-13 targets for 104 yards in a narrow loss to the Green Bay Packers. Now with 20 receptions for 262 yards over the past four games, it's readily apparent that he's found a relationship with Matt Barkley.
Set to take on an average Washington Redskins past defense next week, you could catch lightning in a bottle should you be in a sticky situation at wide receiver heading into the championship round.
Cameron Brate, Tight End, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
We've continued to push this throughout the season, but Brate remains widely available as most fantasy leagues head into their championship round. This third-year tight end caught 5-of-8 targets for 73 yards and a touchdown in Sunday night's loss to the Dallas Cowboys. He's now the sixth-best fantasy tight end heading into Week 15 after tallying five touchdowns in the past seven games.
Even with a matchup against a Saints defense that ranks in the top half of the NFL against fantasy tight ends, Brate is most definitely worth a waiver-wire add and a potential start in Week 16.
