After 17 weeks, it’s finally time for the NFL season to come to an end. For most people, Week 16 marked the end of the fantasy season, but for those of you who have fantasy championships or consolation ladders to wrap up in the final week, it’s best to avoid these three quarterbacks.
Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks
Wilson has been a reliable fantasy quarterback this year for owners, but it’s best to avoid him in the final week of the regular season. He’s facing a resurgent St. Louis Rams defense who have held quarterbacks to 14 or less fantasy points eight times this season, including Wilson back in Week 8, Andrew Luck and Colin Kaepernick.
Colin Kaepernick, San Francisco 49ers
The Cardinals have won seven of their last eight games, including a victory over the Seattle Seahawks, arguably the best team in the league (especially considering the Seahawks lost at home). Arizona has also held opposing quarterbacks to single-digit fantasy points four times this season, and hadn’t allowed more than 23 fantasy points since Week 3 until Sunday’s matchup against Seattle. Kaepernick shouldn’t find himself in a starting lineup unless he’s the only option on a roster.
Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens
Flacco usually isn’t a fantasy starter, but in a weird final week of injuries (Tony Romo and Aaron Rodgers) and possible benchings because of secured playoff spots, he could find his way into a lineup or two. However, there will be better quarterback options on the waiver wire than Flacco, who faces the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals are only allowing 14 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks, and they’ll be anxious to beat the Ravens in the final week and squash their playoff hopes (assuming Miami or San Diego wins, of course). In his last seven games, Flacco has scored just 10 fantasy points three times, and struggled in Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots, who at the time were allowing the 13th most fantasy points to quarterbacks. As the advice will be heading into next season, avoid Flacco as a fantasy option.
