Fantasy Football Week 2: Russell Wilson vs Colin Kaepernick

This week 2 matchup between sophomore quarterbacks should be a fascinating one.  Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks look to use the 12th man advantage at home as they host Colin Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers.

This will be the first of two matchups this season between the two NFC West powerhouses.  Last season, when they met for the first time in Seattle, the Seahawks dominated the 49ers on the score board but statistically the game was closer than you may think.  The Seahawks controlled the run game with 176 total rushing yards with Marshawn Lynch having over 100 of those yards. The 49ers could not set up a run game and had to rely on Kaepernick’s arm having him pass for over 200 yards.

The key for Kaepernick is to repeat his performance of Week 1 vs. the Green Bay Packers.  Everyone expected him to be more mobile and making plays with his legs.  But he showed us all that he is more than a scrambling quarterback. Kaepernick sat in the pocket all game and tossed over 400 yards and let Frank Gore take care of all the carries.  Also, if Kaepernick can find Anquan Boldin for those big plays similar to Week 1, then the 49ers will cruise to victory.

The key for Russell Wilson to take his team to victory is to establish a run game early like the Seahawks did last season.  Let Lynch do what he does best and that will open up the pass game for Wilson to be able to escape the pocket when needed and make plays happen.  Sidney Rice will have to play a much bigger factor in comparison to his under achieved stat line last week if the Seahawks want to keep this game close.

The way I see it, the 49ers are a good enough team to keep the Seahawks in check.  The Seahawks need to keep Kaepernick off the field for as long as possible to be able to compete.  Wilson will also need to move in the pocket and make plays with his arm as well as his legs. This game will either be kept close by the Seahawks, or the 49ers will come out firing and win convincingly.

Game Prediction: 49ers – 27 Seahawks – 14

Fantasy Projection

Wilson: 175 pass yards, 40 rush yards, 1 pass TD, 16 fantasy points

Kaepernick: 265 pass yards, 20 rush yards, 2 pass TD, 1 rush TD, 23 fantasy points
