Note: This was written prior to the Monday night game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts.
1. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers (DET)
With Peyton Manning facing the Seahawks this week, Rodgers is the obvious choice to take over the top spot. Despite a dud game to open the season against the Seahawks, Rodgers should still be in the top 10 fantasy quarterbacks through two games. As long as Green Bay’s offensive line can slow down Detroit’s strong front seven, Rodgers will pick apart its secondary.
Projected Statistics: 340 passing yards, three touchdowns, zero interceptions
2. Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts (JAC)
In case anyone forgot, the Jaguars are terrible. The second-half struggles against the Eagles in Week 1 carried over against Washington in Week 2. Niles Paul might still be standing in the end zone waiting for Kirk Cousins to throw a touchdown pass to him. Luck, T.Y. Hilton and Reggie Wayne will all have big days.
Projected Statistics: 250 passing yards, four touchdowns, one interception
3. Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints (MIN)
The concern I have for Brees so far this season is when Jimmy Graham is being covered, the offensive becomes incredibly ineffective. But against the Vikings, Graham should be involved all game. The Vikings defense has gotten off to a good start this season, but there’s no reason why Brees shouldn’t break 20 points this week.
Projected Statistics: 280 yards, three touchdowns, zero interceptions
4. Peyton Manning, Denver Broncos (SEA)
The Seattle factor is definitely in play here, but not enough to knock Manning out of the top five. Philip Rivers actually had a solid game against them, and they have now allowed the 10th most points to quarterbacks, according to our fantasy points against metric (paid subscription required). Manning’s chemistry with Julius Thomas also seems to be even stronger than Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski. The Legion of Boom certainly presents a challenge, but Manning will back in the 20s again.
Projected Statistics: 230 yards, three touchdowns, zero interceptions
5. Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions (GB)
The addition of Golden Tate is looking more and more important for the Lions as each game goes by. Stafford has only thrown one interception through two games and Tate is by far the best receiver Calvin Johnson has played with in his career. Green Bay’s front seven has also had a tough time rushing the quarterback and hasn’t had a sack all year, so Stafford will have plenty of time to find his receivers.
Projected Statistics: 260 yards, two touchdowns, zero interceptions
6. Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons (TB)
Despite the woes on offense for Tampa Bay, the defense has been effective, but its only played the St. Louis Rams and Derek Anderson in their its first two games. Ryan’s touchdown production wasn’t there in Week 2, but he still had 231 yards, and Roddy White and Julio Jones continue to show off how effective they can be.
Projected Statistics: 250 yards, two touchdowns, one interception
7. Nick Foles, Philadelphia Eagles (WAS)
It’s easy for Washington’s defense to be over-valued after they dominated an awful Jaguars team, but it’ll regress back to the form against the Houston Texans in Week 1. Through two weeks, Washington has only played Chad Henne and Ryan Fitzpatrick. Although Foles isn’t lighting the world on fire, he’ll be a top 10 quarterback against this lackluster secondary.
Projected Statistics: 270 yards, one touchdown, no interceptions
8. Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers (PIT)
I expected more out of Newton against a bad Giants defense in Week 2, especially in the run game, but he was likely protecting his ribs after taking a week off. Joe Flacco managed two touchdowns against Pittsburgh on Thursday night, and if Newton had another week to get healthy, he should be more active running the ball.
Projected Statistics: 200 yards, one touchdown, one interception, 5 carries, 40 rushing yards
9. Tom Brady, New England Patriots (OAK)
In the same vain of the Jaguars, the Raiders are really bad. Even Fitzpatrick and Houston’s offense looked good against them, so Brady and Gronk are bound to have good days. Despite falling short of even nine fantasy points against the Vikings last week, Stevan Ridley showed he can produce in the running game to take some of the focus off Brady and Gronkowski.
Projected Statistics: 215 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions
10. Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks (DEN)
Avoiding the cliche of saying that Wilson will have to throw often to beat the Broncos, Wilson will still be a top 10 quarterback this week given how efficient he’s been. Through two games, he’s completed almost 68 percent of his passes and has been sacked just three times after being the most pressured quarterback last season, per Pro Football Focus (paid subscription required). The Broncos have also the fourth most fantasy quarterbacks through two weeks. Wilson is consistently being underrated this year, but will be in to the top 10 once again.
Projected Statistics: 180 yards, two touchdowns, one interception, three carries, 25 receiving yards
