Note: This was written prior to Monday night’s game between the Bears and Jets.
1. Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints (DAL)
Brees hasn’t been nearly as effective as owners would have hoped, but he’s primed for a big day against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football. Dallas has allowed the 13th most points to opposing quarterbacks this year, and even Austin Davis scored almost 21 points on Sunday against them, according to our fantasy against rankings (paid subscription required). Brandin Cooks is shaping up to be quite the receiver, and Jimmy Graham is fully healthy, putting everything in place for Brees to have a big week against a sub-par defense.
Projected Statistics: 340 yards, four touchdowns, zero interceptions
2. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers (CHI)
I expect the Packers to be effective at running the ball against a bad front seven for the Bears, but Rodgers will have to match the numbers of Jay Cutler, Alshon Jeffery and Brandon Marshall, which should lead to a huge game. Rodgers has gotten off to a slow start, but he’ll have a bounce-back game in what is an important game if the Packers want to win the NFC North.
Projected Statistics: 420 yards, three touchdowns, one interception
3. Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons (MIN)
The Vikings have had a solid defense, but Ryan is the fifth best fantasy quarterback through three weeks, and scored 30 points in Week 1 against the New Orleans Saints. Even without Roddy White, Ryan dismantled the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and if White returns, and and Julio Jones will propel Ryan to a huge game against Minnesota.
Projected Statistics: 330 yards, three touchdowns
4. Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts (TEN)
Through three games, Luck and Peyton Manning are tied for the top fantasy quarterback. That’s no fluke. In his three games, Luck has scored 25, 18 and 31 points, albeit with two games against the Jaguars and Eagles. The Titans have an average defense, but if 18 points is the basement for Luck this week, I’m starting him no matter what.
Projected Statistics: 290 yards, three touchdowns
5. Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions (NYJ)
Despite scoring only three points on Sunday, Stafford is still tied as the second best fantasy quarterback. Green Bay isn’t a dominant defense by any stretch, so I’m just chalking up Stafford’s three-turnover game as a fluke. New York gave up 24 points to Rodgers in Week 2, so Stafford should find similar success.
Projected Statistics: 280 yards, three touchdowns
6. Colin Kaepernick, San Francisco 49ers (PHI)
The Eagles have allowed the most points to fantasy quarterbacks this season, even more than Jacksonville. Kaepernick has had success throwing the ball, especially excluding his three interceptions against the Bears. He’ll have his best game of the season so far against a bad Eagles defense.
Projected Statistics: 245 yards, two touchdowns, one interception, seven carries, 40 rushing yards
7. Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers (JAC)
Rivers has already taken on the Bills and Seahawks defenses this season, and won. He’ll throw for even more yards against a terrible Jaguars team.
Projected Statistics: 300 yards, two touchdowns, one interception
8. Nick Foles, Philadelphia Eagles (SF)
San Francisco’s secondary has had a tough time adapting to personnel changes in the offseason, and rookie Jimmie Ward has been terrible in coverage, allowing four touchdowns in three games, according to Pro Football Focus (paid subscription required). Foles and Jeremy Maclin have developed fantastic chemistry, and his fantasy production has increased each game. Good things ahead for Foles and Philly’s offense.
Projected Statistics: 280 yards, two touchdowns
9. Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys (NO)
New Orleans has allowed the fifth most points to opposing quarterbacks, and Romo has been productive as long as he’s not turning the ball over. Although the Cowboys have had a tendency to run the ball more often with DeMarco Murray, Romo and Dez Bryant will put up a ton of points against a struggling Saints defense.
Projected Statistics: 260 yards, two touchdowns, one interception
10. Jay Cutler, Chicago Bears (GB)
With all the bye weeks, Cutler snuck in to the top 10 this week, and is basically just the best of what’s left. With Jeffery and Marshall’s injuries, Cutler doesn’t have any guaranteed offense, and the offensive line has had a tough time blocking for Matt Forte in the running, putting more pressure on Cutler and the passing game. But with that struggle, Cutler will look to Marshall as his primary red zone option, leading to three touchdowns on the day.
Projected Statistics: 180 yards, three touchdowns
