Fantasy Football Week 5: Sit These Wide Receivers

Wide receiver is definitely the deepest position for starters in fantasy this year.  Many surprises and many let downs have fantasy owners either jumping for joy or pulling their hair out.  Just remember that it is all about the matchup.  Always go with your gut instinct when thinking about who to start or sit but strongly consider these players to put on the bench for week five:

Nate Washington, Tennessee Titans

Washington is on the rise and is owned in less than 25% of fantasy leagues.  His last two games have been astounding having over 100 recieveing yards in each game with two touchdowns this past week.  But realize that they are hosting the Chiefs who are the number one defense in fantasy points and have not given up over 16 points to opposing teams.  Ryan Fitzpatrick is now running the offense since Jake Locker is out with his hip injury so who knows how that will work out.  With all these factors I say pick up Washington if you don't have him, but do not start.

Projections: Four receptions, 45 yards, zero touchdowns

Stevie Johnson, Buffalo Bills

Ever since the Browns traded away Trent Richardson they have been surprising everyone with their solid gameplay.  This past week they shut down the powerful Bengals offense.  The Bills have a weaker offense than the Bengals and a rookie quarterback in E.J. Manuel who struggled this past week.  Expect Johnson to get his looks but you have to think it will be tough for him to get in the endzone if the Browns contained top receiver A.J. Green.  I would keep him benched for this week.

Projections: Five receptions, 58 yards, zero touchdowns

DeAndre Hopkins, Houston Texans

Hopkins is going up against a treacherous defense that made the Rams offense look pathetic.  The Texans do not have trouble scoring points but if Matt Schaub keeps making bad decisions, it could put them in a hole.  If the 49ers can take an early lead or turn it into a blowout then Hopkins can get a few garbage points.  I believe it will be a defensive battle and both teams will focus on the run game.  Bench Hopkins.

Projections: Four receptions, 30 yards, zero touchdowns

Dwayne Bowe, Kansas City Chiefs

Bowe just doesn't get the number of targets a number one receiver should get.  Which also means his number of receptions are below par.  I see that as more of a trend then a fluke.  Bowe and the Chiefs are traveling to Tennessee who has a slightly above average defense.  The Chiefs are hot but are carried by a good defense and solid running game.  I don't see Bowe contributing in too much but he is always a redzone threat.

Projections: Three receptions, 18 yards, one touchdown

Mike Wallace, Miami Dolphins

Wallace only had five total receptions the past two games for a total of 46 yards.  And it was against two defenses with average secondaries in Atlanta and New Orleans.  Wallace also has been dropping passes which makes all of his fantasy owners want to scream especially if you are in a PPR league.  The Baltimore defense has been solid all year, minus the butt whooping they received in week one versus Denver.  Look for the trends to continue for Wallace.

Projections: Two receptions, 27 yards, zero touchdowns
