Note: These rankings were compiled prior to Monday night’s game between the Seahaws and Redskins.
1. Peyton Manning, Denver Broncos (NYJ)
The Jets have allowed 90 fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this season, according to our fantasy points against metric (paid subscription required) and Manning is coming off a game when he fed Demaryius Thomas with eight receptions that turned into 226 yards and two touchdowns. That’s enough to scare any opponent, especially a bad secondary in New York.
Projected Statistics: 415 yards, three touchdowns
2. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers (MIA)
Rodgers has thrown at least three touchdowns in three of his first five games, and now that Eddie Lacy is at least somewhat back on track, Green Bay’s offense is going to take a step forward as a whole. Although Miami’s secondary has been strong this season, Rodgers has been far too consistent this year (besides his dud in Week 1) to rank him any lower than this.
Projected Statistics: 380 yards, three touchdowns
3. Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers (OAK)
The Raiders are terrible, and San Diego’s running game is terrible (I doubt Branden Oliver repeats his production from Week 5), and Rivers is a darkhorse candidate for MVP right now. He’s been spreading the ball around the field far more than last season, getting Malcom Floyd and Antonio Gates involved in the offense, and up against an Oakland team that has a new interim head coach, Rivers will put up huge numbers.
Projected Statistics: 320 yards, three touchdowns
4. Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons (CHI)
Despite a nine-point game in Week 2, Ryan is still ranked as the third best fantasy quarterback this season. He’s been throwing slightly more interceptions than owners would like, but he’s countering those with plenty of touchdowns to Julio Jones and Roddy White. Chicago’s only legitimate cornerback is Kyle Fuller, and they’ve allowed the seventh most fantasy points to quarterback, setting up Ryan for a big day.
Projected Statistics: 330 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions
5. Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts (HOU)
Houston’s defense has been extremely good this season, holding quarterbacks to just over 13 points per game, but Luck will be fine. As he showed against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, Luck can be a productive fantasy option even if he faces a tough defense, and he hasn’t scored below 18 points in a game this season. Use him no matter the opponent.
Projected Statistics: 290 yards, one touchdown, one interception, two carries, 15 yards, one rushing touchdown
6. Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions (MIN)
Minnesota’s defense could be much worse than expected coming in to this season. The Packers embarrassed them on Thursday night football, and even Ryan managed to score 19 fantasy points against them in Week 4 with a tight end at right tackle. Stafford has been inconsistent this season, but Golden Tate still gives Stafford the upside to throw touchdowns even if Calvin Johnson doesn’t play in this one.
Projected Statistics: 300 yards, two touchdowns, one interception
7. Jay Cutler, Chicago Bears (ATL)
Atlanta’s defense seems to be regressing each week. Cutler has stumbled out of the gate, throwing six interceptions in five games, but he’s thrown enough touchdowns to be ranked fifth among quarterbacks in total fantasy points. Brandon Marshall is tied for first in the league in receiving touchdowns, and Matt Forte woke up against the Panthers and started catching the ball out of the backfield again. No matter how bad Chicago’s defense is, Cutler will be able to put up fantasy points.
Projected Statistics: 340 yards, two touchdowns, three interceptions
8. Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks (DAL)
Dallas’s defense has been much better than anticipated, but Wilson is a consistent top 10 quarterback this year with how calm he is in the pocket. Wilson has gotten it done through the air and on the ground. He’s just too consistent to not rank in this range every week.
Projected Statistics: 230 yards, one touchdown, five carries, 50 rushing yards, one rushing touchdown
9. Nick Foles, Philadelphia Eagles (NYG)
Foles certainly hasn’t been lighting the world on fire, but he’s been effective enough to flirt with the top 10 each week. Still, given the other options for this week, owners know that Foles will be throwing a lot with LeSean McCoy struggling.
Projected Statistics: 260 yards, two touchdowns
10. Colin Kaepernick, San Francisco 49ers (STL)
Kaepernick leads all quarterbacks in rushing yards this year, and is on pace to finish the season with at least 500. He’s yet to find the end zone on a rushing play, but has thrown seven passing touchdowns. St. Louis has been tough against quarterbacks this season, but Kaepernick’s ability to pick up rushing yardage always helps.
Projected Statistics: 250 yards, one touchdown, one interception, four carries, 25 yards, one touchdown
