Fantasy Football Week 6: What we Learned About Quarterbacks

In general terms, this week was somewhat the Cosmo Kramer of the NFL season. About 40 percent crazy, 40 percent hilarious and 20 percent downright unbelievable.

The New England Patriots, Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers lost by a combined 42 points....Yes, that happened. Meanwhile, the Cleveland Browns won their first game of the season against a 2011 AFC Playoff team, the Cincinnati Bengals.

Sure as a stoned hippie takes up a Marley reunion on Height, we are pretty much at a loss of words right now. This, in no way, changes when we look at fantasy football. What did we learn, if anything?

Aaron Rodgers Can Still Throw the Football

Raise your right hand if you had Rodgers throwing six touchdowns and over 330 yards against the Houston Texans. Yeah, I didn't think so. Green Bay had struggled through the first five games of the season. Not only did Rodgers seem to refress a great deal from one of the best seasons in the history of the NFL, Green Bay's offense just didn't seem right up until Sunday's performance against Houston.

In the end, they dominated one of the best defenses to the tune of 42 points and 427 yards. What can we take from this ridiculous performance? Aaron Rodgers and company are back.

Good Quarterbacks are Entitled to Bad Games

Two of the best quarterbacks this season struggled a great deal on Sunday. Both Matt Ryan and Alex Smith threw three interceptions and just couldn't get anything going in the passing game. While Atlanta did come away with a win, we came to an understanding that they might need some balance on the offensive side of the ball. Meanwhile, Smith and the San Francisco 49ers were destroyed at home against the New York Giants.

With all this in mind, Ryan is still a solid QB1 option and Smith could be a nice backup option when your primary quarterback is either on the shelf or on a bye.

Michael Vick isn't a QB1 Option

How many times have I mentioned it in the past? Vick just cannot be counted on to be a consistent performer at the quarterback position. He is caughing the ball up on average of over two times per game thus far this season. How the hell can you rely on that type of performance.

In reality, it appears that there are a good 15 NFL quarterbacks that you should count on in regards being you top-notch quarterbacking option.

Robert Griffin III is the Real Deal

How do you rely on a quarterback to put up fantasy options? Um, ask him to actually put up 130-plus yards on the ground as a running back. While we cannot count on RGIII to do this consistently, the simple idea that he can should lead us to believe that the rookie can be a solid QB1 option.

Okay, get RB1 production from your starting quarteback and you are in a pretty damn good position to win every single matchup, every single week. It also doesn't hurt that the rookie has only thrown two interceptions in six games.
