Fantasy Football Week 8: Ranking the Running Backs

1. DeMarco Murray, Dallas Cowboys (WSH)

Murray continues to amaze his fantasy owners every week, no matter what team he is up competing against. Seven consecutive weeks rushing for more than 100 yards per game must keep Murray the No. 1 ranked running back for Week 8. Even though he faces a stiffer defense in the Washington Redskins, there’s no reason to believe Murray, who is just an animal on the field, won’t rattle off another 100-plus yard performance and score a touchdown along the way.

Projected Statistics: 110 rushing yards, 15 receiving yards, one touchdown

2. Matt Forte, Chicago Bears, (NE)

Forte and the Bears travel to face the New England Patriots in Week 8, which presents the multi-faceted running back with a beautiful opportunity to reward high-end RB1 fantasy points yet again. The Patriots sport the fourth-worst defense against opposing running backs and have allowed an average of 26.5 points per game to the position. Without any running backs sharing carries, Forte is up for another monster performance in Week 8.

Projected Statistics: 40 rushing yards, 35 receiving yards, two touchdowns

3. Arian Foster, Running Back, Houston Texans (TEN)

The Titans, who rank among the middle of the pack in defending running backs, shouldn’t present too much trouble for Foster, the Texans’ best offensive player, to find some holes this weekend. Over the past three weeks, Foster has broken 100 yards each game and scored five total touchdowns.  Practically unstoppable, should see Foster topping the century mark again and offering his fantasy owners another touchdown in Week 8.

Projected Statistics: 100 rushing yards, 10 receiving yards, one touchdown

4. Le’Veon Bell, Pittsburgh Steelers (IND)

Bell and the Steelers host the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8, where he should prove to remain a solid RB1 on your fantasy football roster. Scoring his first receiving touchdown this past week Bell showcased his versatility not only in the running game, but as a receiver. So far this season, the Colts have allowed the 11th most fantasy points to running backs, and with a guy like Bell on your team, he shouldn’t disappoint in Week 8.

Projected Statistics: 75 rushing yards, 30 receiving yards, one touchdown

5. Marshawn Lynch, Seattle Seahawks (CAR)

Lynch is up for a sweet performance against the Carolina Panthers who have surrendered nearly 1,100 total rushing and receiving yards to running backs over seven games. With the Panthers really not stopping any running backs these days, Beastmode should bust loose for some big gains and redeem himself from his soft performance last week.  Look for a touchdown out of Lynch against a team who has allowed nine so far this season.

Projected Statistics: 65 rushing yards, 25 receiving yards, one touchdown

6. Lamar Miller, Miami Dolphins (JAC)

Facing the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 8 should have Miller owners excited to start him against a team who currently allows running backs an average of 26.4 points per game. If the Dolphins can acquire a lead over the Jaguars, then Miller will see even more handoffs. Scoring his past three weeks in a row, should have Miller hitting the end zone in Week 8 against Jacksonville’s sixth-most generous defense.

Projected Statistics: 55 rushing yards, 25 receiving yards, one touchdown

7. Jamaal Charles, Kansas City Chiefs (STL)

Charles is always a must-start regardless of the matchup, however, in Week 8, he faces the Rams who boast the second-stingiest rush defense in the NFL. Through six gams the Rams have only allowed one touchdown and they held Lynch, mentioned above in check to only 73 total yards with no score this past week.

Charles is one of the elites in his class, so with any luck, he’ll be able to force some runs through the Rams’ secondary in Week 8 and find the end zone while in the process.

Projected Statistics: 50 rushing yards, 25 receiving yards, one touchdown

8. Joique Bell, Detroit Lions (ATL)

Lucky owners of Bell see a boost in his fantasy potential for Week 8 as the Lions travel London to face the Atlanta Falcons, who are horrific in defending opposing running backs. Allowing an average 47.2 fantasy points and 181 total yards each week to the position could be setting Bell up for a field day in Atlanta in Week 8. Even with a questionable, beat up Reggie Bush in the picture, there should be plenty of opportunity for Bell to cash in on some high-end fantasy points.

Projected Statistics: 70 rushing yards, 10 receiving yards, one touchdown

9. Ronnie Hillman,  Denver Broncos (SD)

Hillman proved himself two-fold last week, scoring twice against a strict San Francisco 49ers defense. Once again, Hillman faces a stiffer defense in the San Diego Chargers who’ve only allowed two rushing touchdowns and an average of just 78 rushing yards per game. While two touchdowns might be a bit stealthy to strive for, Hillman is proving to be the real deal and even with coming off of a short week should find Hillman producing borderline RB1 numbers for his owners.

Projected Statistics: 75 rushing yards, 20 receiving yards, zero touchdowns

10. Shane Vereen, New England Patriots (CHI)

Vereen and the Patriots host the Chicago Bears in Week 8. Just like last week, Vereen should be quarterback Tom Brady’s go-to multi-purpose running back man. Expect multiple rush plays along with several receiving targets once again for Vereen against a Bears middle-of-the-road ranked defense against running backs. A touchdown and ample yardage should be well within Vereen’s reach in Week 8.

Projected Statistics: 45 rushing yards, 50 receiving yards, one receiving touchdown
