Fantasy Football Week 9: Ranking the Running Backs

1. Arian Foster, Houston Texans (PHI)

Foster has just been ablaze lately, rushing for over 100 yards per game in his last four matchups. He’s also scored seven total touchdowns within this period. There’s no reason to believe Foster will start slowing down in Week 9 against the Philadelphia Eagles who’ve allowed an average of 97 rushing yards per game to opposing running backs. Start Foster with confidence and watch the fantasy points pour in this Sunday at home against Philly.

Projected Statistics: 125 rushing yards, 15 receiving yards, two touchdowns

2. DeMarco Murray, Dallas Cowboys (ARI)

No matter what defense Murray is facing, his 100-plus rushing yards and overall statistics have been off the charts each week. Murray faces in Week 9 a testing defense in the Arizona Cardinals, however, who currently allow an average of just 15.5 fantasy points per game to their opposing running backs. While Murray will be more formidably challenged, it’s hard to fathom him not rattling off another 100-yard rusher once again in Week 9.

Projected Statistics: 120 rushing yards, 40 receiving yards, one touchdown

3. Marshawn Lynch, Seattle Seahawks (OAK)

Lynch, who hasn’t quite been able to fully take advantage of some of his easier matchups hosts the Oakland Raiders in Week 9. All signs would points towards Seattle building up an early lead in their comfy home stadium against a winless Raiders, who give up 119 yards per game to opposing running backs. If this is the case, Seattle will be in the position to hand the ball off more, giving Lynch his opportunity to finally break the 100-yard barrier and hopefully find the end zone which he hasn’t seen since Week 3.

Projected Statistics: 105 rushing yards, 20 receiving yards, one touchdown

4. Le’Veon Bell, Pittsburgh Steelers (BAL)

Bell has a fairly friendly at home matchup against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 9, who’ve allowed nearly 20 fantasy points per game to running backs over the past two weeks. Additionally, it would appear Bell is in line to receive more red-zone opportunities due to fumbling issues from fellow running back, LeGarrette Blount. Currently allowing an average of 76 rushing yards each week to opposing running backs, sets Bell, a better-than- average running back, up for a profitable Week 9 outing.

Projected Statistics: 90 rushing yards, 30 receiving yards, one touchdown

5. Giovani Bernard, Cincinnati Bengals (JAC)

Bernard and the Bengals host the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are typically forced to play from behind. The fact that the Jaguars give up the fifth most fantasy points and rushing plays to running backs sets the stage for Bernard to be given many opportunities to carry the ball against their spotty defense. If A.J. Green returns to the offense, the Bengals surely could manage a substantial lead therefore handing the ball off more to Bernard to slow the plays down.

Projected Statistics: 80 rushing yards, 25 receiving yards, one touchdown

6. Andre Ellington, Arizona Cardinals (DAL)

In Week 9, Ellington and the Cardinals travel to face off against the Dallas Cowboys. Over the past two weeks, the Cowboys have surrendered the ninth most fantasy points, 187 ground yards, and 48 rush plays to opposing running backs, setting Ellington up for a profitable fantasy outing in Week 9.

Projected Statistics: 75 rushing yards, 30 receiving yards, one touchdown

7. Jamaal Charles, Kansas City Chiefs (NYJ)

The Chiefs host the New York Jets, who are in dire straits to say the least, in their Week 9 matchup. With the Jets’ struggles at quarterback, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Chiefs gain a significant lead where they can integrate even more of their run game. Don’t let the fact that the Jets have only allowed one rushing touchdown worry you into starting Charles. He’s much too talented and he’ll surely find a way to squeak in at least a receiving score for his owners in Week 9.

Projected Statistics: 70 rushing yards, 30 receiving yards, one receiving touchdown

8. Ronnie Hillman, Denver Broncos (NE)

Week 9 takes Hillman and the Broncos up north to face the New England Patriots, where Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte just had a field day, landing two rushing scores on the team. Hillman isn’t exactly Forte, however, he should be able to take advantage of the Patriots’ softer ground defense who currently allows an average of 25.4 fantasy points per week to opposing running backs. With either 100-plus yards, or a score three weeks in a row, Hillman makes a sound RB2 starter in his Week 9 matchup.

Projected Statistics: 80 rushing yards, 10 receiving yards, one touchdown

9. Mark Ingram, New Orleans Saints (CAR)

Ingram, coming off of a spectacular game with 172 rushing yards, should fare well again against the Carolina Panthers who’ve surrendered an average of 109 rushing yards per game this season. They’ve also give up 10 running back scores and 320 receiving yards, poising Ingram for another rewarding performance for his fantasy owners in Week 9. Roll with him as your RB2 in this favorable matchup.

Projected Statistics: 80 rushing yards, five receiving yards, one touchdown

10. Lamar Miller, Miami Dolphins

Miller and the Dolphins play at home against the San Diego Chargers in Week 9. Over the past two weeks, the Chargers have declined dramatically at stopping the rush, allowing 258 ground yards, three rushing scores and one receiving touchdowns to their opposition. This looks like the perfect opportunity for Miller to take advantage of the Chargers’ sudden disarray in limiting the ground game, making him an RB2 with upside approaching Week 9.

Projected Statistics: 75 rushing yards, 10 receiving yards, one touchdown
