So this week there are tons of top wide receivers that are on the bye such as Demaryius Thomas, Calvin Johnson, Wes Welker, and more. So again I do not blame you for starting these wide receivers that I recommend to sit this week. Here are your weekly sit-em wide receivers:
Vincent Jackson, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Jackson had two back to back monster weeks with over 100 receiving yards and two touchdowns in week six and seven. Last week he had a subpar performance compared to those weeks with only five catches and 79 receiving yards. This week he is up against a top defense in Seattle that has only given up four touchdowns to opposing receivers all season. When playing in Seattle, the Seahawks defense has yet to give up a receiving touchdown to anyone so this is a very tough matchup for Jackson. If you have the depth, consider sitting him.
Projections: Five receptions, 60 yards, zero touchdowns
Torrey Smith, Baltimore Ravens
Smith’s receptions and yards have been severely cut down since Jacoby Jones returned to action in week six. He was averaging over 100 yards per game up until Jones’ return and since then, Smith has hardly had any targets and catches. And as bad as Cleveland has been this season, their defense has been performing quite well only allowing five receiving touchdowns to opposing receivers. Smith really needs to assure his fantasy owners that he is still worth starting. But until he does, I suggest replacing him for at least this week.
Projections: Four receptions, 48 yards, zero touchdowns
Steve Johnson, Buffalo Bills
Since Johnson’s return from injury to his groin, he has not been showing any signs of weakness to it. The past two weeks he has a combined 13 receptions for 133 yards and one touchdown. Anyone with stats like that you want to start right? Well not this week. The top ranked defense in the Chiefs come to town who has only given up one touchdown to opposing receivers when playing away. Even though quarterback Thad Lewis has been playing exceptionally well, he will be truly put to the test this week against the top defense. Johnson will be targeted but the Chief will do whatever they can to shut him down.
Projections: Six receptions, 60 yards, zero touchdowns
Mike Wallace, Miami Dolphins
Wallace just hasn’t been cutting it all season. With only one touchdown and only three games over 50 yards receiving, I don’t see how Wallace is worth starting at all anymore. Now that fellow receiver Brandon Gibson is out for the season, that could have more looks come Wallace’s way. But until we see some promising stats come his way, we are keeping Wallace on the bench. Especially since a pretty good Bengals secondary comes to town.
Projection: Four receptions, 52 yards, zero touchdowns
Marques Colston, New Orleans Saints
It is hard to put a receiver of Colston’s caliber on the bench. Especially since he is part of such a high powered offense that loves to air the ball out every game. Colston has only a single touchdown that came in week one and has yet to have a blowout game with tons of fantasy points. One day we home Drew Brees can find him in the end zone more often rather than throwing it to Jimmy Graham or the rookie Kenny Stills. This week Colston looks like he has a decent matchup against the Jets but since he hasn’t put up any type of respectable fantasy points, I don’t see how we can start him. When he finally has a good game we will reconsider.
Projections : Three receptions, 36 yards, zero touchdowns
