Continuing what will be a weekly feature here at EDraft, I take a look at some wide receivers you should avoid come tomorrow.
As is the case with all decisions as they relate to fantasy football, you have to take a look at matchups in deciding which players to start or sit. Case in point, why start any receiver that will be lining up against Darrelle Ravis?
So let’s take a look.
Mike Wallace, Pittsburgh Steelers
It is pretty obvious that Mike Wallace is going to have some early season issues after holding out through training camp. In short, you just cannot expect him to make an immediate impact for Pittsburgh.
I am also going to assume for argument sake that a majority of fantasy football players will avoid starting Wallace until the talented receiver proves he is up to the task. Still, it looks as if Pittsburgh plans on making Wallace a key component to their offensive scheme against the Denver Broncos on Sunday night.
Don’t take that as an excuse to expect big things from Wallace.
Instead, it is safe to assume that Pittsburgh will primarily focus on getting the ball to Antonio Brown until Wallace is up to speed.
DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin, Philadelphia Eagles
Don’t expect Michael Vick to throw for 300 yards and multiple scores against an underrated Cleveland Browns secondary on Sunday. Instead, you are going to see a heavy dose of LeSean McCoy and the Eagles’ running game.
Joe Haden is one of the best pure cover corners and will shut down one of these two threats to the best of his ability. Additionally, the young defensive back doesn’t see his duties limited to one side of the field. If Vick has success going away from Haden early you can expect Cleveland to counter.
Steve Johnson, Buffalo Bills
This goes without saying. Don’t expect Johnson to break through big time against Darrelle Revis of the New York Jets. He is, by far, the best cover guy in the National Football League.
Ryan Fitzpatrick is going to have to look in the direction of David Nelson, Donald Jones and Scott Chandler, among others.
I cannot envision Johnson even putting up 50 total yards, let alone a touchdown.
