Let's just get into brass tax here. If you have a viable QB1 option, you probably wouldn't have clicked on this link. If you have Michael Vick as that QB1 option, you might just want to stop wasting time and look at another hobby for the next 15-plus weeks.
Either way, let's take a look at three quarterbacks you should avoid at all cost this upcoming week of NFL football action.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, Buffalo Bills
It doesn’t make sense to rely on a QB2 option when there aren’t any teams with the week off this weekend. Still, some take a look at matchups and decide to sit their starting quarterback option. I did this last week with Alex Smith over Peyton Manning (pretty much a draw) and plan to do the same thing this week.
That being said, Fitzpatrick isn’t a solid backup option this week unless you are just not sold on your starter. If that is the case, you might actually want to find another QB1 option via a trade.
I don’t see the much maligned Bill’s quarterback being able to avoid mistakes against what is a decent Chiefs’ secondary. Instead, Eric Berry will be able to hold him in check a great deal from the back end of the defense.
You can expect Buffalo to rely a great deal on C.J. Spiller and the run game in this one. David Nelson being lost for the season as the No. 2 option outside of Steve Johnson doesn’t help either.
Michael Vick, Philadelphia Eagles
You expect 15-to-20 points from your quarterback on a consistent basis. Vick didn’t give you those points last week, and there is little reason to believe he will against a stout Baltimore Ravens defense on Sunday.
At this point, I would have to draw the conclusion that Vick isn’t even a viable QB1 option in standard leagues that deduct points for turnovers. He is too prone to throwing that untimely interception. Why not go with a consistent Alex Smith or even Andy Dalton here instead?
The days of relying on Vick to give you solid fantasy points from the quarterback position are clearly over. If you start him you run the risk of blowing a win. It really is that simple.
Josh Freeman, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Normally opposing quarterbacks are solid options going up against a weak New York Giants secondary. This is even more magnified with the injuries that unit is facing early in the 2012 season.
I just don’t see it that way as it relates to Freeman. He threw four more interceptions than touchdowns on the road last season and will be playing in a hostile environment in The Meadowlands.
Go with your QB1 option here, no matter the opponent he is playing.
