Fantasy Impact: Cardinals RB Adrian Peterson Likely to Miss Week 14

For the second consecutive week, the Arizona Cardinals will likely be without running back Adrian Peterson. The veteran running back remains sidelined in practice with a neck injury and without clearance from doctors, he will remain sidelined for Week 14. ESPN's Josina Anderson first reported Peterson is expected to miss Sunday's game.

In Peterson's absence last weekend, Kerwynn Williams drew the start and shined with the opportunities he received. On 16 carries, Williams finished the night with 97 rushing yards and an outstanding 6.1 yards per carry against a quality Los Angeles Rams run defense. While some feared Arizona would use a committee, Williams separated himself from the rest of the pack and earned the sizable workload.

Looking ahead to Week 14 with Peterson out, Williams should again see a significant workload. However, a matchup against a Tennessee Titans' run defense that allows the fourth-fewest rushing yards per attempt (3.5) and third-fewest rushing yards per game (86.2) is about as tough as matchups come. Given the state of Arizona's injury-depleted offensive line, the battle at the line of scrimmage should be won far more often by Tennessee's defensive line.

As a result, Williams finds himself as a low-end RB3 or FLEX play. In deep leagues fantasy owners might not have better options, but it's best to avoid Williams wherever possible. He is off the DFS radar in Week 14.

Josina Anderson also reported Peterson will not need surgery, so a return within the next few weeks remains a possibility.
