Fantasy owners who invested an early-round pick in Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles were dealt another setback on Friday. Charles, who has dealt with a few setbacks this season in his return from ACL surgery, was limited in practice on Friday with reported knee swelling.
It's bad news for fantasy owners, who already were let down a bit this week when Chiefs coach Andy Reid announced they would still work in the 29-year-old slowly, from two touches in Week 4 to 11 touches in Week 6. Now the Chiefs caution is even more understood given Charles' latest setback. While he is not listed as out or even doubtful for Sunday's game, given the Chiefs nature, it wouldn't be a surprise if Kansas City plays it safe and holds him out.
As a result, Spencer Ware's fantasy value jumps up even more. Ware, who was nearly a consensus top-10 fantasy back this week, now could finish as a top-five scorer. The New Orleans Saints have allowed nearly 120 rushing yards per game to opposing running backs this season and have surrendered 11 rushing touchdowns, the most allowed in the NFL. It all makes for Ware to put up tremendous numbers thanks to the matchup, workload and his skillset all a match for a big game.
