For the second straight week, a concussion will sideline Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman. The team ruled out Freeman on Friday, marking the second straight game he will miss after he sustained a concussion on his first carry against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 10.
Freeman wore a black non-contact jersey in practice on Thursday and Friday, a clear indicator he did not clear the concussion protocol. The team is being cautious with Freeman and doctors are making sure he is symptom free given that Freeman suffered a concussion during the preseason and this is the third known concussion of his career.
Now that Freeman is officially out, it locks in Tevin Coleman as an RB1 in fantasy this week. Coleman received 21 touches last Monday against the Seattle Seahawks and while Seattle limited him to 2.2 yards per carry, Coleman finished the game with 58 total yards and a touchdown. Coleman received the bulk of the touches at the goal line and could have finished with two touchdowns if not for a reversal by replay.
Coleman should find success easier to find against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Buccaneers rank in the middle of the NFL in terms of total rushing yards allowed and average yards per carry on the season. Coleman should also contribute nicely as a pass catcher and offers the upside of 80-plus total yards and a touchdown.
