Fantasy Impact: Giants Release WR Victor Cruz

As expected, the New York Giants have reportedly released veteran wide receiver Victor Cruz. It saves the team $7.5 million against the cap and provides Sterling Shepard more of an opportunity in the team's passing game moving forward. 

Cruz simply hasn't been the same since the leg injury he suffered back in 2014. He missed the entire 2015 campaign, only to return this past season without much fanfare. All said, Cruz caught 39-of-72 targets for 586 yards and one touchdown. 

With him now out of the equation, look for an uptick in targets for Shepard. The 2016 second-round pick caught 65-of-105 targets for 683 yards and eight touchdowns as a rookie this past season.
