Fantasy Impact: New York Giants Coaching Moves

The New York Giants will take the field this upcoming summer without Tom Coughlin acting as the team's head coach for the first time since 2003. Coughlin resigned earlier this month after 12 years with the team. He will be replaced by Ben McAdoo, who served as the Giants offensive coordinator over the past two seasons.

Replacing McAddo at offensive coordinator will be Mike Sullivan, who served as the team's wide receivers coach last year.

Unlike other teams that made coaching moves over the past few weeks, this should be a rather smooth transition for the Giants.

When McAdoo was brought over from the Green Bay Packers in 2013, where he served as the team's quarterbacks coach, he implemented a hybrid West Coast offense that focused on quick timing routes and intermediate play calls while attempting to find down-field success in one-on-one coverage.

It was dramatically different than what the Giants had run under former offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride.

And it took a bit for Manning to get accustomed to this. He put up three touchdowns and three interceptions in his first two games in this new scheme to start the 2014 season. In the 30 games since, Manning has tallied 62 touchdowns compared to 25 interceptions. It's the best span of 20-plus games in Manning's long career.

Don't expect much of this to change in 2016. As Manning gets more comfortable in McAdoo's offense and the latter actually takes over all aspects of the head coaching role from an offensive standpoint, we might even be able to expect further improvement from Manning.

As it is, a seemingly irrelevant fantasy quarterback prior to 2014, there's little doubt that Manning should be relied on as a top-10 performer from that position moving forward.

The same can be said for Odell Beckham, who tallied the fifth-most fantasy points among receivers this past season. He's been in McAdoo's system for two years now, and has continued to improve at every turn. It's also unrealistic to expect any sort of regression now that wide receivers coach Mike Sullivan has taken the role of offensive coordinator. If nothing else, Sullivan fully understands what Beckham Jr. likes to do — potentially even more so than McAdoo. That could be a boon for the soon-to-be third-year receiver.

Quarterback and wide receiver are settled. Outside of that, there's not much what we can figure out regarding the Giants offense heading into the offseason.

Will Rashad Jennings be back next season? If not, is Andre Williams prepared to take over the primary ball carrier duties?

At tight end, Larry Donnell missed the final eight games of the season after struggling through a first half of the season that saw him compile just 223 receiving yards. He was replaced in the lineup by Will Tye, who caught 42 passes for 464 yards.

The two could split tight end duties, which would have a major impact on how each performs from a fantasy perspective. Though, Tye might have the upper-hand here with the way he performed after Donnell was injured mid-season.
