For the first time since Week 2, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is active. Returning from a torn meniscus he sufferd in the team's second game, Peterson is also expected to start against the Indianapolis Colts. It's not yet known whether he will be on a pitch count, but this is absolutely big news for the Vikings. They entered Week 15 ranked 32nd in the NFL in rushing.
From a fantasy perspective, there's a whole lot of unknowns here. On one hand, Peterson has not played in three months. One has to wonder whether he'll be rusty here. On the other hand, the future Hall of Fame running back has more than proven himself to be capable of returning from serious injuries and performing at a high level out of the gate. With Minnesota struggling to do anything of substance with him sidelined, there's an expectation the team may throw Peterson to the fire with a heavy workload immediately.
Peterson and the Vikings are taking on an Indianapolis Colts defense that ranks in the bottom eight of the NFL against fantasy running backs. In fact, Indy has yielded nearly 1,800 total yards and 13 touchdowns to running backs thus far this season.
You could very well stand to start Peterson in your fantasy playoffs and see if he's capable of hitting lightning in a bottle. Of course, that's all about how your current running back situation is. The better bet here would be to watch closely in regards to how AP performs here and move forward to Week 16 with an open mind.
