Fantasy Impact of Dez Bryant's Likely Return

The Dallas Cowboys are expected to have Dez Bryant back in the mix next week against the Philadelphia Eagles after missing the past three games with a knee injury.

It's definitely going to be a welcomed sight for rookie quarterback Dak Prescott and the rest of the 5-1 Cowboys. If Bryant is 100 percent, it will also be a boon to the team's offense.

Though, there are surely some wide-ranging fantasy ramifications here.

While Prescott did continue to perform at a high level with Bryant sidelined, he was left targeting Terrance Williams and Cole Beasley as his favorite receivers. That's a less-than-stellar proposition for any quarterback, let alone a rookie.

Despite all this, both receivers put up some solid numbers through the first six weeks of the season.

2016 Statistics
Player Rec Targets Catch % Yards TD
Cole Beasley 33 39 84.6 390 3
Terrance Williams 20 24 83.3 311 1

One has to wonder whether Prescott has found that comfort zone with these two receivers. If so, it wouldn't be too smart for him to force the ball Bryant's way out of the gate. This seems to suggest that Bryant himself will have limited fantasy relevance as he works his way back into molding a relationship with Prescott.

On the other hand, Dallas likely won't be against the idea of going with three-wide sets at a larger clip with Bryant back in the mix. When he was sidelined, the team decided to utilize two tight ends more often. That likely won't be the case here.

Even then, the expectation here has to be that Beasley or Williams will see a downtick in targets with Bryant back in the mix. Based on how Dallas utilized both receivers prior to its bye, it's rather easy to suggest that Williams will be the one most impacted.

Beasley can line up both in the slot and on the outside. Williams himself has primarily played on the outside during his up-and-down career with the team.

Add in Ezekiel Elliott's dominating performance at running back, and there's no reason to believe the Cowboys' offense wont be clicking on all cylinders come Sunday night against Philadelphia. In this, Prescott's fantasy value should increase until/if Tony Romo takes over the starting job.
