Fantasy Impact of Jamaal Charles Being Placed on Injured Reserve

The Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly placed running back Jamaal Charles on injured reserve. Charles has appeared in just three games and has rushed for a grand total of 40 yards. This comes on the heels of him missing the final 11 games last season with a torn ACL.

This means that Charles will be out at least the next eight weeks, making him eligible to return to the field in Week 17.

Some could have seen this coming after Kansas City picked up Bishop Sankey off the New England Patriots' practice squad earlier on Tuesday.

However, it really does put a wrench in the entire Chiefs running back situation.

Remember, Kansas City traded running back Knile Davis to the Green Bay Packers last month. That was before news of Charles' inability to recover from his knee injury broke. It was also prior to Spencer Ware suffering a concussion last week against the Indianapolis Colts.

With Ware out and Ware having to pass through the concussion protocol in order to play again, Charcandrick West becomes Kansas City's lead back.

He tallied 52 yards on 14 attempts in Ware's stead last week against the Indianapolis Colts. With Kansas City set to take on a Jacksonville Jaguars defense that ranks in the bottom six of the NFL against the run, West becomes a solid under-the-radar DFS play should Ware not be able to suit up in Week 9.

Though, the news of Charles being placed on IR is much more relevant as it relates to Ware than anyone else. He enters Week 9 as the 10th-best fantasy running back.

Should Ware be able to recover from this concussiona at some point soon, there won't be any real competition outside of West for touches in the Chiefs' run-based offensive attack. That makes him a fantasy dynamo moving forward in the second half of the season.
