Former Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson announced on Tuesday that he will sign with the New Orleans Saints. It ends what has been a long wait on the free-agent market for the future Hall of Fame ball carrier after the Vikings declined to pick up his option for the 2017 season.
As it relates to Peterson's potential fit in New Orleans, there's still a lot up in the air. Here's a dude that played in all but three games last season due to a knee injury. That came one year after Peterson led the NFL in rush attempts, rushing yards and rushing touchdowns. Though, that performance also came after Peterson sat out all but one game of the 2015 campaign following a child abuse case.
At 32 years old, we really have no idea how much Peterson has left in the tank. He's also joning a Saints team that has a starter in place in the form of Mark Ingram.
More than anything, this signing pretty much precludes us from exhausting anywhere near starter capital on the Saints' running back situation when it comes to fantasy drafts leading up to the 2017 season. It could also have a negative impact on Drew Brees' value, especially if New Orleans goes away from its pass-happy mentality.
