The Baltimore Ravens made the most surprising move of NFL cut down day, releasing starting running back Justin Forsett. We're not exactly sure what led to this decision, but it shakes up the team's running back situation a great deal. With Forsett now out of the mix, rookie Kenneth Dixon will be competing with Buck Allen and Terrence West for touches in Baltimore.
More than anything, this seems to bode well for Dixon. The rookie fourth-round pick from Louisiana Tech has been considered a potential replacement for Forsett down the road. And despite suffering a torn MCL that will keep him out of action the first couple weeks of the season, he's surely a solid add in drafts prior to the start of the season.
Though, we're probably looking more at a committee type situation with Dixon and West sharing touches in Baltimore. That obviously limits the fantasy value each provides, especially a player in West who shined during the summer before taking a back seat to Dixon in the preseason. Overall, the rookie put up 107 rushing yards and an average of 4.9 yards during the preseason. On the other hand, West went for 101 yards and an average of four yards per rush.
The best advice here would be to potentially stack these two guys in the mid-to-late rounds. That would provide you tremendous upside should one take over the primary ball-carrier duties in a Ravens offense that's reliant on the running game.
