Following a brutal Monday Night Football Game that saw three brutal hits between the Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers, the NFL announced on Monday that Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster received a one-game suspension for his hit on Bengals' linebacker Vontaze Burfict.
The suspension comes as little surprise after Smith-Schuster delivered a block on Burfict where their helmets collided and Burfict then laid on the turf and got carted off the field. It's possible Smith-Schuster would have only been fined if he didn't stand over Burfict after the hit, unaware that Burfict was injured on the hit.
In Smith-Schuster's absence, Martavis Bryant will see more targets and jumps onto the fantasy radar in an even bigger way. Bryant saw six targets in each of the past two games and finished with 40 receiving yards in both games as well. Now he should see eight-plus targets on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, a game that should also be very physical.
While Baltimore rates as one of the best pass defenses in the NFL, it lost top cover cornerback Jimmy Smith on Sunday for the season. The loss of Smith will force this secondary to adjust and move things around, it should make the matchup even better for Bryant and Antonio Brown as a result. Bryant now becomes a top-30 wide receiver this week while Brown is the top wide receiver in Week 14.
Bengals safety George Iloka also received a one-game suspension from the NFL as the result of his helmet-to-helmet hit on Brown late in the fourth quarter. Cincinnati's secondary takes a hit without Iloka but there is not a significant fantasy impact from it.
